Selection Process for Applicants

Instructions for Applicants

In order that we can continue to process your application, you must submit a portfolio. Your portfolio must be received at Sheridan by February 17, 2017.

Digital Portfolio Requirements

1) Game Comparison and Analysis: List 2 games (digital or non-digital) that you play- one you feel is well designed, and one you feel is poorly designed. Analyze the overall design and gameplay of each. Do not simply describe the games. Instead, we would like you to explain how the games demonstrate, or fail to demonstrate, essential game components required for game quality. Your response must be no more than 300 words.

2) Game Design Portfolio: (5-8 examples of work in total) Video submissions are notto exceed 2 minutes. In a separate document, write a brief description for each submitted piece and identify the role(s) you played in its production.

Submit 5 examples of your original work from the categories listed below (no more than two submissions per category).

5. Early Paper Design: a scanned PDF or image of design sketches of a gamelevel, gameplay metrics, logic diagram, game mechanic, user interface,thumbnail sketches, or rough storyboards of a gameplay sequence orcinematic/story event

6. Video of 2D or 3D animation7. Video or screenshots of a 3D model of any game asset or character8. Video capture or photos of a physical game you designed (board game, card

game, etc.)9. Video or screen capture of digital interactive fiction (can be created using Twine,

Inklewriter, or any other software)10. Architecture or CAD designs

Submit up to 3 examples of your original work of any nature. You may submit additional examples of work from any category listed above. Other suggestions include music, robotics, graphic design, sculptures, fashion design, Cosplay costumes, interactive design, paintings, life drawing, or examples of anything else you feel you excel at.

3) Game Idea: Describe an original idea for a digital or non-digital game. Yoursummary should be broken into two sections: Premise and Gameplay. The premise sectionis not to exceed 100 words. The gameplay section should describe how the game works,with a particular focus on how the player(s) interact with the game. The gameplay section isnot to exceed 250 words. You may include one visual reference to help explain your gameidea.

All documents must be double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman and submitted in .PDF format. All images must be submitted in .PNG or .JPG format. Video must be submitted in .MOV or .MP4 format.

Enclose a certified cheque or money order for $50 in Canadian funds, payable to Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning for the portfolio assessment fee. Please note that US Postal money orders are not accepted. Complete and enclose the attached Portfolio Submission Sheet. If you have been requested to submit a portfolio for any other Sheridan program, you are required to enclose the assessment fee once. Submit your portfolio independent of any other program.

Please note:

Your portfolio will not be returned. Include your name and Sheridan College ID number on every piece of your

submission, including the USB Flash Drive. Complete the Portfolio Submission Sheet BA Game Design. If you have been requested to submit a portfolio for any other Sheridan program, you

are required to enclose the assessment fee once. Please indicate which program youincluded the assessment fee with on the Portfolio Submission Sheet.

Protect your USB Flash drive when mailing (bubble wrap). Include your USB Flash drive, Portfolio Submission Sheet and your portfolio fee

payment of $50 in an 8 1/2 X 11 size envelope. Please note: US Postal money orders are not accepted. All of your portfolio requirements are to be on the USB Flash drive. Be sure to label

the Flash drive with your name and Sheridan College ID number. No hard copies of your written work and images etc. should be included. Your

Portfolio Submission sheet should be the only hard copy included.
