What Would I Do In Honors Biology?Content: Honors Biology is a comprehensive and
challenging introduction to biological science, with a strong molecular emphasis, and a research component. The content of this course will include cells, genetics, ecology,
evolution, bacteria & viruses, DNA, plants & animals, scientific research and experimental design.
This course will be a faster paced, more expanded curriculum than the academic biology course, and will be beneficial and more challenging for the self-directed learner.
It is a laboratory and activity based course that will emphasize the scientific method as well as inquiry based learning methods.
The "Honors" curriculum differs from the regular curriculum by the increased expectations of the students and the interest to engage in scientific research.
What Do I Need To Know (Pre-requisite Knowledge/Skills)Honors Biology is a research and writing-
intensive version of our academic Biology course. English skills: Comprehensive writing skills Math skills: Completion of Algebra 1Experimental Design and Research skills:
Completion of Honors Earth Science
What Makes a Student Successful in Honors Biology? We recommend an interest in scientific
research.Strong note-taking, study, and writing skills
are recommended.Strong math skills are required for laboratory
investigation, which stress the collection and analysis of quantitative data.
Why Do Students Take This Course? It is designed for students interested in
studying science at the college level, and who wish to challenge themselves academically.
It is designed for students interested in experimental design and scientific research.
It is designed to prepare students for the research components found in Chemistry and Physics, as well as the Independent Science Research (ISR) course.
