Senior Team Homework Term 1 & 2, 2014Each fortnight:
Complete TWO homework activities from the table below. Aim to use ONE page per activity. If you have photos, diagrams or graphs it may go over 2 pages. Do your BEST work and remember book standards at all times. Remember to fill in your Reading Log and remember to participate in Mathletics
Identify 5 ways you may re-use an empty tin can
Help at home - Write a diary entry about what you did when helping out in the garden. What
did you learn? What did you see?
Create a science themed wordfind or crossword. Remember to spell the
words correctly and use capital letters.
Use your imagination and write down 10 questions you
could ask an earthworm.
Write detailed step by step instructions for a recipe, task or chore you do at home. You may
include pictures.
Interview your parents to find out their responsibilities at
home/workplace.
Make a diagram of the lifecycle of an insect of your
choice.
Pick any sustainable activity that you do not currently do at home, e.g., Recycling, using less water/power, using natural cleaning products,
growing a vegetable garden etc. Write a detailed explanation about what your family has
done and how this activity has changed your household.
What if Mrs Fowler refused to come to school? List 3 possible causes for
this and 3 effects.
Design a T-shirt to promote sustainability
Design a shield that shows who you are - ethnic, cultural, taonga (treasures), Family, hobbies,
favourites
Find out the different cultures in your class. Make a pictograph of the
results.
Create an alphabet (A to Z) key on an environmental
topic.
Your polar fleece jacket/sweatshirt was made using 25 plastic bottles. Research and write down the recycling code for plastics and what type of
plastics matches each code.
Make an advert promoting a food that is popular in your culture.
Design and decorate a plain cloth bag to use as your personal shopping bag. Present your bag to the
class.
Research and create a fact file about an endangered NZ animal. You will need to think about presentation and the facts you choose. What are we doing to improve it’s chance of
survival, e.g., Maui’s Dolphin
Make up a song or rap about our theme ‘Our World, Your Choice’.
Create a photo journal of some of the plants you have in your garden. Remember to label them clearly. Can you
find their scientific name?
Write a letter to parents to persuade them not to drive their children to school. Remember to use
a range of persuasive devices, e.g., exaggeration, direct voice and statistics

can make one too.

others. Record what you have learnt.
Visit http://wonderopolis.org/wonders/. Explore the site and record a
“Wonder” you have had that you have found the answer too. You
may have something you are wondering, make sure you ask.
Write a poem to encourage people to recycle.
Remember to use similes, metaphors and rhyme.

dex.html. Use a T-chart to compare the differences between a Nicaraguan Boy and your life in NZ. Draw a sketch of your favourite animal,
plant or insect from The Virtual Rainforest.
Grow a bean plant from seed and when it starts to grow measure it
every day. Record with the date in your book. Plot your results on a line
graph. What have you learnt?
