Planning for housing in Maroondah The Maroondah Municipal Housing Strategy 1997 has successfully guided the development of housing across the municipality. It is now time for an update. The Maroondah Municipal Housing Strategy 1997 sought to: ‘provide a framework for the development and maintenance of diverse and sustainable housing opportunities in the City of Maroondah’. The Strategy has helped to ensure that existing urban and environmental qualities are protected and enhanced whilst encouraging increased residential opportunities in appropriate locations. Since 1997 Maroondah has experienced: Preferred areas developed for medium density development, located close to existing urban infrastructure Explicit designation of Ringwood as a Metropolitan Activity Centre and Croydon as an important activity centre Areas of special environmental quality and diverse landscapes being protected with planning zone and overlay controls. people. We are also more diverse, educated, affluent and increasingly moving into medium density housing. Housing has also become more expensive making it harder for some to remain within the area.
