Reading Please make sure that your child reads to an adult for at least 15 minutes a day as well as reading independently for an allocated amount of time. Your child can read either a school book or one from home.

Look at the picture above – sometimes we don’t have to read words to understand things; sometimes we can infer information from images. Answer these questions:

What do you think it is? Where might it be? What has happened? What could have caused it? When was this picture taken? What time of the year?

This week, I would like you to create a small paragraph, of about 3 lines, to describe this image. Below is the first line of my example:

The gnarled, fallen tree lay surrounded by perfect bright bluebells.

Page 4: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Handwriting:

Remember: Keep your ascenders (tall letters) tall and your descenders (long tailed letters) below the line. Make sure that you keep the remaining letters within the lines and the same size e.g. a, e, i, o, u

Spellings for this week: We may have looked at these spellings before, however it is really important to keep on practising!

Year 4 - magician, attention, fraction, direction

Year 5 - bruise, guarantee, yacht, vehicle

Both year groups- use a dictionary to find the definitions of your spellings. Can you put them into sentences?

In order to practice these, you can create word pyramids or draw pictures around the word:

English Task 1- Both year groups

Last week, we reviewed a cartoon version of Macbeth and listened to some other Shakespeare stories. This week, you are going to have the chance to retell Macbeth in any way that you like! You could create a comic strip, create your own film, animation using Lego or just write the story in your own words; it really is up to you!

We are going to divide the sections of the story over the next few tasks.

Your task:For this session, you are going to focus on the first part of the story.

Here is a brief reminder about what happens:

Task 2: Both year groups

In the last session, we looked at the beginning part of Macbeth. Today, we are going to look at the middle section. If you started retelling the story using Lego or filming yourself, it would be great if you could continue using the same technique all week!

Below is a brief reminder of what happened in the middle of the story only:

Macbeth walks back from battle with Banquo, they see three witches.

Three witches say that Macbeth will become King, but Banquo’s sons will try and take over.

Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that he will be King.

Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth to murder King Duncan while he is staying in their castle.

Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland.

Macbeth then becomes King, however he is reminded of what the three witches said about Banquo’s son. He throws a big feast, but orders two murderers to kill Banquo and his son.

When he speaks to the murderers, they tell him that they killed Banquo but his son got away.

When Macbeth comes back to the feast, he sees Banquo’s ghost in his seat. He starts shouting so Lady Macbeth says that the King is ill and sends him to bed.

Page 6: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Task 3: In Task 2, we looked at the middle of the Macbeth story. For this task, I would like you to film, draw or write the final part, the ending! Below is a brief overview of what happened in the ending:

Task 4: Review of Macbeth- both year groups.

For this session, we are going to look back across our Macbeth work. I would like you to write a small paragraph about what you have enjoyed throughout this topic. Answer these questions to help you:

What have you enjoyed during our topic of Macbeth? Why? What haven’t you enjoyed? Why? If you could change any part of the play, what would it be and why? Are there any other Shakespeare plays you would like to learn about? If

so, what would you like to learn?

Macbeth decides he would like to go and see the three witches again to find out what will happen. They tell him: beware Macduff, no man borne from a woman can hurt Macbeth, no harm will come to Macbeth until Birnam Wood moves to Dunisnane

Macbeth murders Macduff’s family so Macduff goes and joins Malcolm to defeat Macbeth.

Lady Macbeth begins to get very sick and is heard saying ‘Out damned spot!’ as she cannot forgive herself for murdering King Duncan. She later dies.

Malcolm and Macduff begin a war against Macbeth, but he Macbeth is not worried as he doesn’t believe the woods can move.

Malcolm and Macduff dress their soldiers in branches from Birnam Wood and advance towards Macbeth’s castle.

As Macbeth is unprepared, Macduff defeats him and Macbeth is killed.

Macduff is crowned King.

Task 5: SPAG focus

Year 4: This week, we are going to recap apostrophes for possession or contraction.

Apostrophes are used for possession when we want to say that an object belongs to someone or something.

Here are some examples:

Contractions: When we use an apostrophe instead of a letter.

Your task:

There is Holly’s beautiful, red coat.

Here is John’s Spiderman lunch box.

Can you pass me the dog’s yellow collar?

Didn’t = did not

Couldn’t =could not

Wouldn’t= would not

Page 8: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Year 5:

This week, we are going to be looking at the past perfect form.

To create the past perfect form, we need to:

Include the past tense of ‘to have’ which is had. Include a past participle (the past) of the main verb (the action) e.g.

swim is a verb the past participle is swam.

Here is an example: ‘to have’ in past.

Past participle of ‘leave’

Your task:

The plane had left by the time I got to the airport.

Page 9: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Maths Task 1:

Year 4: To understand pounds and pence (using decimals).

Let’s have a look at an example:

We can see here that we have 2 x £2 coins, 1x £1 coin, 1x 50p coin, 1x 5p coin and 1x 2p coin.

When we add these altogether we can make this number sentence:

£2 + £2+ £1+ 50p+ 5p + 2p = £5.57

The easiest way to find the answers is to add up the coins with the largest values first.

Let’s look at another example:

In this example, we can see that there is a note which is worth £5.

Here is the number sentence for this purse:

£5 + £2 + 5p +2p + 1p = £7.08

Your task:

Use the steps above to help you answer these questions:

A rule to remember!

£1.00=100p

So, 155p= £1.55

Don’t forget your decimal place in between the pounds and pence!

Page 10: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Year 5: Multiply by 10, 100 and 1000.

Watch me teach following this link: https://newport-primary-school.primarysite.media/media/multiplying-decimals-by-10-100-or-1000

To help understand how we multiply by 10, 100 and 1000, we need to remember these rules:

Let’s go through a question to help us:

When we multiply by 10, we move the digits one place to the left. When we multiply by 100, we move the digits two places to the left. When we multiply by 1000, we move the digits three places to the left.

Page 11: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Below is the number 6.125 in a place value grid:

TTh Th H T O Tths Hths TThs 6 1 2 5

We need to now move the digits two places to the left as we are multiplying by 100.

TTh Th H T O Tths Hths TThs 6 1 2 5

We can see from this place value grid that 6.125 x 100= 612.5

Your task:

Use the steps above to help you answer these questions:

Task 2: Year 4: To reason and problem solve.

Use the steps from the previous task to help answer these questions.

Page 12: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Year 5: To reason and problem solve

Your task:

Use the examples from the previous tasks to help you answer these questions:

Page 13: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Task 3:

Year 4: To compare decimals.

For this task, you will need to look carefully at decimals using a place value grid. Let’s have a look at a question together.

Our answer would be:

0.32 › 0.31

Your task:

Use the steps above to help you answer these questions:

Here we have 0.32 as we have 0 ones, 3 tenths and 2 hundredths.

Here we have 0.32 as we have 0 ones, 3 tenths and 1 hundredth.

Page 14: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Year 5: To divide by 10, 100 and 1000.

When we divide by 10, 100 and 1000, we need to remember these rules:

Let’s work through an example together:

This question asks us to use place value

counters.

Below is a place value grid with 124

represented in place value counters.

Th H T O Tths Hths Thths

Remember, when we divide by 100, we move the digits two spaces to the right.

Th H T O Tths Hths Thths

So 124 ÷ 100 = 1.24

Your task:

Use the steps above to help you answer these questions:

When we multiply by 10, we move the digits one place to the right. When we multiply by 100, we move the digits two places to the right. When we multiply by 1000, we move the digits three places to the right.

Page 15: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Task 4:

Year 4: To reason and problem solve

Use the steps from the previous task to help you answer these questions:

Page 16: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Year 5: To reason and problem solve

Your task:

Follow the steps in the previous task to help you answer these questions:

Task 5:

Year 4: To order decimals watch me teach by following this link:

Here is an example to help you with this task: https://newport-primary-school.primarysite.media/media/year-4-ordering-fractions

Page 17: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

For this question, we need to think carefully about whether the number line is increasing or decreasing. In this instance, the number line is increasing.

We then need to find a decimal which is larger than 0.4 but smaller than 0.7.

Our answer is 0.6.

Remember ascending means getting larger and descending means getting smaller.

Your task:

Follow the steps above to help you answer these questions:

Year 5: To add decimals within 1.

Page 18: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Let’s have a look at an example:

Here we have 4 tenths, 1 one hundredth and 2 thousandths. The number represented in this place value grid is:

0.412

If we add one more thousandths our number sentence would be:

0.412+0.001 so the only column which would change is the thousandths.

0.412+0.001= 0.413

If I wanted to add 0.3 to 0.412, the tenths column only would change:

0.412+0.3=0.712

Your task: Investigation

I would like you to answer the following questions:

Hint: draw yourself a PV grid to help!

Add 0.5, 0.05 and 0.005 to the number 0.313 How many hundredths can I add before the tenths change? How do you

know? How many thousandths can I add before the hundredths change? How

do you know?

Topic Tasks

Task 1: Geography

This week, we will be focusing on our Riveting Rivers topic. So far, you have researched the different parts of the water cycle and created a diagram. This week, you are going to make your own mini film using the ChatterPixKids app.

For Iphone or Ipad users: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/chatterpix-kids/id734046126

For android users: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.duckduckmoosedesign.cpkids&hl=en_GB

For this task, you will need these pictures from Google Images:

The sun (a cartoon one is best) Clouds Rain River Any extra parts that you would like to include.

You need to save the images to your Ipads or phones and then click onto the app.

Click on ‘Gallery’ and select your chosen picture.

Because this picture does not have a face, draw a straight line

where you want the mouth to be.

Page 20: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Once you have drawn your line for your mouth, the microphone

will no longer have a line in it. Hold it down until you see this:

You will have a three second countdown, before you have 30 seconds to explain what your picture represents in the water cycle.

Once you are happy with your recording, you can listen back to it using the play button. Then click ‘Next’ in the top right hand corner.

You can then add stickers to your picture such as eyes, or a hat!

Click the button on the bottom right hand corner to save and then export it back to your Ipad or phone.

Once you have completed this for the sun, you can continue onto the other parts of the water cycle! Please send these clips to: [email protected].

Once I have all these, I will add them to the Robin Class Home Learning website.

Page 21: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Geography :

For this task, you will need an Ipad or phone so that we can have a look inside a water treatment centre!

Ask your parents to download Google Expeditions by following this link:

https://edu.google.com/products/vr-ar/expeditions/?modal_active=none

You don’t have to sign in with an account if you do not want to.

Once in, search: Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Once you have downloaded, you will be transported to the first part of a Wastewater Treatment Plant- the Sewer!

Click on each of the tabs and find out some information all about how we make our water clean. When you scroll down to the white section of the information, you can click to see different pictures!

Take a look around the Treatment Plant and see what you can find.

Other Curriculum Areas

Art Self-portraits-This will continue throughout the next few weeks, please keep

hold of your work!

This week, we are going to continue with our self-portrait.

Self portrait: A picture of the person who is drawing it.

Your task:

This week, you are going to follow these instructions only!

Follow these step by step instructions:

Page 22: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Science: We are going to look carefully at designing our own sustainable town or village!

Sustainable: using natural resources in a way that we can keep using for a very long time.

For this task, you will need to think about these questions:

What will they need to have there for these living things to use it? For example- hedgehogs will need slugs and snails, which will need plants. Bees will need flowering plants.

If it is particularly large area, how could humans use it? For example- A bench in the shade?

Can you use recyclable products from a recycling centre? Your task:

I would like you to create a bird’s-eye-view of your sustainable town or village. Try and include a paragraph with what your sustainable town or village has inside.

Birds-eye-view: a drawing of a map from above.

Here is an example of what a bird’s-eye-view of London looks like:

Computing:

Page 23: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Computing Computer Science

Over the next few weeks, we are going to be looking at Computer Science. This week, we are looking at how the internet works! I would like you to go onto Google and search for ‘Submarine Cable Maps’ or follow this link: https://www.submarinecablemap.com/

On this website, you should see a map of the world along with lots of coloured lines:

These coloured lines are actually internet cables! The map shows how we are all connected by a cable to get internet.

If you click on the links on the right hand side, it will highlight only one of the cables with some information about the cable on the right hand corner.

Page 24: Home Learning Pack - Amazon Web Services...staying in their castle. Macbeth murders King Duncan and blames King Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain who run away to England and Ireland

Your task:

I would like you to choose three cables to look at and write down these facts:

How long is the cable? What countries does it connect? When was it launched? (Look at the RFS) Can you think of three advantages to having these cables? Can you think of two disadvantages to having these?

PE This week, I would like you to look at this Cosmic Yoga Youtube channel:

Follow this link to have a go at Pokemon Yoga! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbCjkPlsaes

Feel free to send me in any pictures that you may have to [email protected] or post them onto the school blog.

PSHE: For PSHE this week, we are going to be looking at a story called ‘My Hero Is You.’ It’s a special story as it talks about how we can all be heroes by washing our hands and staying 2 metres apart. Go onto the Robin Class Home Learning- Week 9 to download the story.

Your task:

In one part of the story, Ario tells some of the children that when they are feeling anxious to think of a special memory or person to make them feel better. I would like you to have a think about what your special memory or who your special person is and draw a picture of them; make it colourful and cheerful! I would like you to place it somewhere in your house, so that every time you feel anxious, you can look at the picture to help you feel better.

As this is your special picture, you do not have to send in a copy. If you would like to show me, please feel free to send it using our class email address:
