Sacramental Preparation

Baptism Preparation (for parents of infants and young children).

Next session is Thursday, October 6 at 7:00 pm. Class fee is $20

For children age 7 and older who have not yet been baptized, we

have classes for the children and parent(s) beginning in September.

Parents of children in Grade 2 and up for the 2020/2021 school year you can now register your child for the sacraments of Confirmation, First Holy Communion, and First Reconciliation.

Classes begin Sunday, September 27.

Class schedules

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) The RCIA is a process for adults seeking initiation into the Catholic Church. Weekly gatherings consist of prayer and sharing as we come

to discover where God is calling each person. The process is open to:

all those not baptized

those baptized in another denomination now seeking to make a

profession of faith in the Catholic Church and be confirmed and

receive Holy Eucharist

those baptized Catholics who have not completed their Christian

Initiation (have not been Confirmed and/or have not received First

Eucharist)

The RCIA journey involves the faith community as a whole by deepening its own conversion to Christ and by providing a prayerful

example of Christian living for those inquiring into the Catholic faith.

For more information regarding Baptism, Confirmation, First Communion, Reconciliation, and RCIA, contact

Val Magnuson, Pastoral Assistant, at 306-924-2602.

Other Liturgy Changes—

Promptness—to ensure we can monitor who is

attending, the doors will be locked at the start of Mass.

This also allows us to provide the proper number of

hosts needed for that Mass.

Instructions about the Mass will be done either by

announcement or individual instructions before Mass

with detailed instructions for Eucharist.

Singing is a high-risk activity so we will not have this

except for special music as we can fit this in safely.

Proclaimers of the Word—First Reading, Psalm and

Second Reading will all be proclaimed by the same

person. This will be done from a microphone at the

front, with care being taken to not share a microphone

within 72 hours of another person. The ambo (lectern)

and the microphone there are to be used only by

Father Lorne.

Collection—a collection box is inside the glass doors

for your donation instead of being collected from you

in the pew.

Eucharist—hosts will be consecrated on a table and

parishioners will come forward, one household group

at a time. Stand behind the black tape line; Father will

say “The Body of Christ”; respond ‘Amen’, then step

forward and pick up the host closest to you; take a

step or two away before consuming.

We are working hard to help get you back to Mass.

Thank you for your patience as we try things to see

what works for Holy Trinity.

Holy Trinity open for Masses for

approximately 50

Government of Saskatchewan guidelines for Places of

Worship are permitting more people in churches that can

accommodate them by following the needed protocols for

distancing and cleaning.

At Holy Trinity, we have seating for approximately 50

people, dependent on whether they come as couples,

singles or families. We are registering as many as

possible for weekend Masses and monitoring how many

helpers we need to provide the controls required for

distancing and cleaning.

Masks are recommended by the City of Regina for indoor

public spaces. You are encouraged to wear one.

Requests for Sunday Mass Attendance are being

co-ordinated in the office. Email [email protected] or

call the parish office (306) 543-3838. Requests will be

handled during our regular office hours, which normally

have been Monday to Friday, 9 am to 2 pm. Please

provide a day-time phone number so we can call you back

and confirm an attendance date. Questions about your

health will be asked at time of booking (see separate box).

Those registered are being given detailed instructions.

Weekday Mass Attendance - Generally weekday

Masses are Monday to Friday at 8:30 am. You do not

need to register in advance. Come to the north door; we

will record your name and phone number and ask the

health assessment questions.

Sat 5 pm Mass will resume in late September as long as

we can fill the positions needed Saturday afternoons.

Start date and more details in coming weeks.

Church Open for Prayer—We will continue to have the

church open for prayer from 9 am to 2 pm, Monday to

Friday, unless otherwise published in the bulletin.

We may need to close occasionally to ensure staff aren't

working too many hours to accommodate the required

protocols.

Church Pews—at Holy Trinity are marked to for the

2 metre guidelines of social distancing. Our upholstered

pews cannot be sanitized. If you wish to bring your own

seat cushion or towel, please do so. The wooden pews

on the south side of the church do not have upholstery. If

you prefer to sit there, check with the person directing this.

Seating for Mass will be done from front to back. For exit-

ing after Mass, it will be reversed, from back to front.

These directions will be announced at the Mass.

Photos on website—check these out on the home page

to give you an idea of our setup.

Self-assessment Questions You will be asked the

following when you book a weekend Mass, as well as

when you arrive at Holy Trinity for any Mass:

Do you have COVID-19 or live with someone with

COVID-19?

Have you been exposed to someone with

COVID-19?

Are you sick, including even one of the

slightest symptoms or feelings of sickness,

especially upper respiratory or flu-like

symptoms such as fever, cough, headache,

Faith-based Reflection

For the Renewal and Healing of Our Common Home

The world is hurting. The Earth is suffering, and we are suffering with her. In March 2020, nearly the entire planet went into confinement. A time

out. The Earth went on forced sick leave and drew our collective attention to a profound crisis that we were all living through without wanting to admit it. We have wept. We have lost loved ones to this disease; we have been terribly afraid; and we have, at times, been enraged by irresponsible decisions and behaviours.

However, this isolation, these bereavements, these fears that we—the privileged of this Earth—have suffered are but a part of the suffering that has been ravaging the Earth. This health crisis—this pandemic—is in fact intimately linked to other crises: the ecological crisis; the human crisis; the political crisis; poverty; inequality; and our abusive relationship with the Earth, with its resources and especially with our sisters and brothers in less wealthy countries. For it is these countries, their people and their resources that feed us, that keep the comfortable system in which we live, i.e., our economy, running.

And then, all of a sudden, we experienced the extreme fragility and absurdity of our way of life. We saw how these chains and paths of trade and exploitation enabled the virus to spread across the globe at lightning speed. Then, we noticed something else: the well-disguised injustice within our own societies. The inequality of opportunities, the unequal access to health care, the financial precarity of some, the diseases more prevalent among the poorest that made them more vulnerable…. The injustices in our economy that make us depend on poor people in unacceptable conditions—even here and not just halfway around the world—to maintain our false impression of being developed countries…. We have seen how we treat our elderly and our children. We have seen how we treat immigrants and homeless people. Our culture of waste. We have seen all this. It is not the pandemic that has caused this suffering. The pandemic merely exposed it. And after the sadness, perhaps we were filled with shame and questioning… and disgust and anguish.

Everything is interconnected. That is what we have just experienced in our homes, in our daily lives of confinement. We are all interdependent on one another. Any action taken in one corner of the world has rapid and sometimes catastrophic repercussions on the other side of the world. What we are doing to the Earth, how we live, how we consume, how we travel, our human relations, our political relations, our economic relations… everything is interconnected. We have just understood, in real time, everything written in Pope Francis’s encyclical, Laudato Si’. This revolutionary document did not invent

Recovering together

COVID-19

Page 8: Holy Trinity August 23, 2020 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time Roman … · 2020. 8. 21. · Holy Trinity update from Fr Lorne Staff will be taking vacation August 24 to 29. We will be

anything. But it enlightens us and maps out a path for a more just future on this Earth. Like Laudato Si’, the pandemic offers us an opportunity to learn, to rethink our world and to undergo conversion.

It is a chance to settle in, to take a break. To slow down, to listen and to rethink. To regain awareness about what is essential. To not limit or deprive ourselves (that endless Lent without Easter to which Pope Francis refers in Evangelii Gaudium), but to flourish together. To understand at last that in the common home, it’s no use if only some can live in dignity, if it is at the expense of others who suffer. The suffering includes not just people, but animal and plant species as well. We do not have the right to deplete resources as if we were living on a planet without limits. Who thought we had the right to behave that way? We need a profound awakening of consciousness and a transformation—a radical transformation—of our systems and institutions.

It’s time to act. When the institutions and norms we have created do not serve human dignity and ecological integrity, they must be changed. That is where we are now. We have a responsibility to make that change. We are a community and we need to start thinking and acting like one with dignity, justice, well-being for all, solidarity and sufficiency as our guiding principles. This is huge, yet also clear. We need a profound transformation of our hearts and minds. A conversion.

The current economic and political model, based on a relationship of exploitation of resources and other peoples, is unjust and abusive. This model is a failure. It cannot simply be “fixed.” It must be deconstructed and rebuilt; we must work together to imagine something else entirely. After our conversion, to emerge from this crisis that has been exposed and accentuated by COVID-19, we must repent and build a different world together.

Repairing, rebuilding and healing will take the commitment of every one of us, and we have a special role to play. We, the Church. We, Christian women and men. We, civil society. Each of us can and must take part.

We need each other.

Let us act by rooting each of our choices—political, economic and social—in this dream for the common good. Let us act in gratitude, joy, hope, celebration and LOVE for humanity and for our common home.

This reflection has been adapted from a presentation made by Josianne Gauthier, Secretary General of CIDSE, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Laudato Si’. After working at Development and Peace — Caritas Canada for over 16 years, Josianne joined CIDSE, a network of Catholic social justice and international solidarity organizations of which Development and Peace is a member, in 2017.1425 René-Lévesque Blvd West, 3rd floor

Recovering Together: Collection for Development and Peace – Caritas Canada The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting us all in multiple ways. As we begin to recover here in Canada, those in the Global South are experiencing the worst of its impacts. The most vulnerable of our human family are increasingly at risk of poverty, hunger, conflict and human rights violations. On August 29-30th, parishes are invited to hold a special collection for Development and Peace – Caritas Canada to help communities in the Global South cope with the devastating impacts of the pandemic and help them recover. Let us not forget our sisters and brothers in the Global South, who more than ever, need our support and solidarity. You can watch this video to learn more about the actions of Development and Peace in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Regina Catholic School’s Ukrainian ProgramThis year the Ukrainian Program will have a different delivery model. Students will not be transported during school hours due to guidelines set out by the Chief Medical Officer and Regina Catholic Schools. The program will have a two-pronged approach, online instruction and information as well as face-to-face instruction. The program will run on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at St. Matthew. Parents can bring their students on either of those dates when it works best for their schedule. The student’s health and safety is paramount to us and all sanitization protocols set out by the Chief Medical Officer and Regina Catholic Schools will be followed to the letter. We are looking for your commitment to this new delivery model so that Ukrainian Program can continue during this time of uncertainty. Please contact Susan Kohuch at [email protected] or 306-530-5786 if you are interested or would like more information about the program. We look forward to seeing your children in the fall and the continuation of the Ukrainian Program. Stay safe and have a wonderful summer.

Weekday and Sunday Masses Through the Summer the English Mass will be Livestreamed from Resurrection

August Stewardship Bulletin Bits

August 2, 2020 - 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time“Jesus said to them,‘There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves’.” (Matthew 14:16)This is what Jesus said right before he fed the five thousand men. How often do we really place our trust in Jesus when the situation looks grim? With Jesus, no gift is too small or insignificant when offered with love. But, we have to do our part. We should trust that Jesus will provide all that we need. We need to believe that Jesus has a better plan in store for us.August 9, 2020 - 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time“He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.” (Matthew 14:29)When you hear Jesus calling, do you respond immediately and trust that He knows what He’s doing? If so, you are walking on water! When we say “yes” to Jesus, we feel the power of His presence in our lives. We can feel the freedom it gives us! Listen to how Jesus is calling you to live the extraordinary life He has intended for you.August 16, 2020 - 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time“For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.” (Romans 11:29)God has a special mission in mind for each of us. He has given us the gifts we need to accomplish that mission. We are called to be good stewards by using those gifts to do the work that He has planned for each of us. If we deny our gifts or fail to use them as God calls us to use them, then some part of His work will be left undone.August 23, 2020 - 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time“Or who has given the Lord anything that he may be repaid?” (Romans 11:35)St. Paul reminds us of a central fact of stewardship. We cannot give the Lord anything - God already owns it all. God made everything. All we can do is return a portion of God’s many gifts back to Him. Sincere gratitude for our gifts opens our hearts to joyful generosity! Through your generous sharing, you just may be the answer to someone’s prayer.August 30, 2020 - 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time“What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” (Matthew 16:26)St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Remember, you are what you are in the eyes of God, and nothing else.” We often forget this stewardship wisdom when we spend all of our time, talent, and treasure to gain more of the world’s riches. We need to set our priorities based on God’s values and not the values of the material world.
