Praying for the Souls of the

Faithfully departed

As Catholics we believe, “All who die in

God’s friendship, but still imperfectly pu-

rified, are indeed assured of their eternal

salvation; but after death, they undergo

purification, so as to achieve the holiness

necessary to enter the joy of heav-

en” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1030).

The Church teaches after death, the holy

souls can no longer earn merit through

prayer or good works; thus, they cannot

pray their own way out of purgatory. It

is our duty and privilege to be able to

assist them through our prayers, good

works, and especially, the holy sacrifice

of the Mass. Therefore, the Church has

taught us to pray for the souls in purga-

tory, and while we can do this anytime,

Nov. is dedicated specifically to praying

for the dearly departed.

Activities in the Classroom

TK/K

Students were thrilled about Theme Week with al-

most all of our class participating each day. In Social

Studies, students learned about Christopher Colum-

bus and how he embarked on a very long voyage,

there were three ships La Nina, La Pinta and Santa

Maria in his fleet, and we compared ships from the

past to present. In Religion, students talked about

the Bible and how Jesus tells us stories. In Math, TK

students focused on their number packets and Kin-

dergarten students began comparing

and ordering Numbers 0-10. They

compared 2 numbers using objects,

determined if a number was greater or

less than 5 and/or 10.

1st/2nd

Congratulations to all 1st and 2nd grade students for

earning 80% or above on their Religion test. Way to

go! It was great to see the kids dress up with the dif-

ferent outfits this week. The students seemed to en-

joy it very much.

3rd/4th

Theme week was a hit! Students had a blast dressing

up and participating in the pumpkin patch and faith

family activities. Math 4 completed their chapter this

week on place value and will be moving on into add-

ing and subtracting multiple digits. Math 3 continues

to strengthen their addition and subtraction skills

and will be bringing their chapter to a close next

week. In Social Studies students are beginning to un-

pack the vocabulary terms in their chapter that fo-

cuses on communities. Students will review branches

of local, state, and national government on Election

Day.

5th/6th

Students finished their Native American project. In-

cluding writing an essay on a chosen tribe, made a

slide presentation about them, and created a hand-

made artifact that represents their tribe. Next week

in history we will begin learning about the age of ex-

ploration. Students had a fun day in class designing a

pumpkin on paper and then picking a pumpkin from

our school pumpkin patch. They got to paint, glue,

and bring their pumpkin to life with many donated

materials. In religion, students learned about God's

grace and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Fruits

of the Holy Spirit. They drew a picture representing

the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit in class. Next

week 5th grade will finish up their unit with dividing

by 2-digit divisors. 6th grade will finish up their unit

of adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals.

7th/8th

Students had a lot of fun taking science outside. In

the beginning of the week they played a game like

Clue to solve the food web mystery. Then later dur-

ing the week they worked

in small groups to think like

a scientist and create crite-

ria for opening a biofuel

company. Then they plant-

ed seed in 3 dif- ferent en-

vironments to test out

their theories. In history

7th graders fin- ished their

compare and contrast

project of the

worlds first three religions.

In writing students wrote

short, descriptive, spooky

stories, which turned out amazing!
