PASTOR’S LETTER Good People of Holy Cross,

The new fiancée looks down at her kneeling husband-to-be, looks at the ring sparkling on her finger, and gushes, “You are just perfect!” A bright hard-working college student on the Dean’s List has completed years of study with a perfect 4.0 grade point average; all A’s and not a single B. A young model is lauded by a beauty magazine writer gushing over her perfect complexion, no blemishes, no wrinkles. How nice to be perfect! But is it a blessing or a curse? As difficult as it is to achieve perfection in any arena, it is even more difficult to maintain perfection. The new fiancée’s perfection begins to tarnish over time as the real world of finances and schedules and emotional conflicts take their toll on the young couple. The 4.0 student is always just one “B” away from the being spoiled. And the perfect complexion of the young model can only begin to fade as time and gravity do their inevitable damage, no matter how much make-up and plastic surgery tries to hide it. Perfection ~ such an elusive goal. Jesus tells us to be perfect but before we give up without trying, we would do well to realize that the word translated as “perfect” would be better translated as “complete.” It is important to note that Jesus is not expecting perfection from his followers, if that were the case, we would all be lost! Jesus is asking us to strive for being a complete disciple; a mature, well-rounded and well-balanced person of faith, a person who seeks to embody the qualities that Jesus has outlined for us. Can we be perfect, or even complete? Well, it is not wrong to set a high bar, even if it is not fully achieved. As Les Brown said, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.” Our new Archbishop’s appeal is underway, it is a beautiful way for all of us to share faith, please fill out a pledge card if you have not already done so. May these Lenten days make us all more “complete!”

Fr.

Fr. Jude Michael

PRAYERS

Loving God, Holy One, Your desire is for our wholeness and well-being. We hold in tenderness and prayer the collective suffering of our world at this time. We grieve precious lives lost and vulnerable lives threatened. We ache for ourselves and our neighbors, standing before an uncertain future. We pray: may love, not fear, go viral. Inspire our leaders to discern and choose wisely, aligned with the common good. Help us to practice social distancing and reveal to us new and creative ways to come together in spirit and in solidarity. Call us to profound trust in your faithful presence, You, the God who does not abandon, You, the Hold One, breathing within us, breathing among us, breathing around us in our beautiful yet wounded world. -Chris Koellhoffer, IHM

Faith, Hope and Love . . . Are these present in your marriage? Have you given up hope that they can be?

In 1 Corinthians 13:13 Jesus tells us the greatest of these is Love. Living in a marriage that is missing love can be difficult. If you have given up hope that your marriage can and will get better, ask your spouse to consider attending a Retrouvaille program. Retrouvaille is an international Christian-based ministry that offers a three-stage program to help couples improve their marriages. First, a weekend program is attended, followed by post-weekend meetings. Finally, an on-going monthly small group of couples gather for support and growth. If improving your marriage is important to you, reach out today. For more information about our upcoming VIRTUAL Retrouvaille Weekend, February 25-28 2021, contact: Andy & Lilly Cichon @ 770.912.4743 or visit our website: HelpOurMarriage.com
