DESCRIPTION
For this programme, Holland Baroque Society invites not one artistic director, but a complete string quartet: Quatuor Mosaïques. The members of this world‑famous string quartet play on original and lead the strings of Holland Baroque Society. This results in a confrontation between an old‑world baroque orchestra and a modern string quartet. Around 1770, new ensemble strengths became fashionable, such as the string quartet. It is unclear for which type of ensemble Mozart wrote his divertimenti: for a traditional string orchestra; for two violins, a viola and a double bass; or for the modern string quartet? We examine all possibilities: string quartet, string orchestra and concerti grossi with Quatuor Mosaïques as concertino and HBS as ripienist. Holland Baroque Society ontmoet QuatuorMosaïques. Met dit beroemde strijkkwartet verkentHolland Baroque Society de overgang van baroknaar classicisme, van het barokorkest naar hetstrijkkwartet. Een verkenning van stijlen, tijdperken en opvattingen over muziek.
We schrijven 1770. Barokmuziek werd nog gespeeld maar het
classicisme had haar intrede al gedaan. Mozart hoorde tijdens zijn reis
door Italië de Concerti Grossi van Corelli. Bij thuiskomst schreef hij
daarop geïnspireerd drie divertimenti. Voor het traditionele strijkorkest,
voor twee violen, altviool en contrabas of voor het moderne
strijkkwartet? In een dialoog onderzoeken Holland Baroque Society en
Quatuor Mosaïques samen alle mogelijkheden. Een muzikale tijdreis
door de achttiende eeuw.

Quatuor Mosaïques bespeelt authentieke instrumenten en is
gespecialiseerd in achttiende-eeuwse strijkkwartetliteratuur. Veel van
hun opnamen zijn onderscheiden met prestigieuze prijzen.
Holland Baroque Society is een openminded ensemble dat vanuit de
klankwereld van de barokmuziek bruggen slaat van de zeventiende
en achttiende eeuw naar het hier en nu. Dit resulteert in afwisselende
concerten waarbij het publiek steeds weer getrakteerd wordt op
verrassende ontmoetingen en interessante thema’s. Deze innovatieve
werkwijze vormt de basis van de unieke programmering.
