Holdens Hat

Holdens red hunting hat is a symbol of Holdens personality. Throughout the book,

Holden points out many times that he is wearing his red hat, and even explains how he wears it.

Holden likes to wear his hat in all different kinds of ways, and each different position of the hat

reflects him. Holden wears the hat over his eyes whenever he is bored, and he puts the peak to

the back of his head when he was perky. It also represents Holdens melancholy decisions.

Holden likes to contradict himself many times throughout the book, and his red hat is not an

exception.
