In the Gallery

OCTOBER 21–NOVEMBER 26Painting Dance and Drawing Landscapes Exhibit by Barbara ShaferArtist Reception: Thursday, October 25 • 7–8 p.m.

SEPTEMBER 9–OCTOBER 15Far From the Madding Crowd Exhibit by Allan ServossArtist Reception: Thursday, September 13 • 7–8 p.m.

Allan Servoss has spent the best part of fall and winter of 2017 and 2018 creating spaces to retreat. He believes there are always things in human society that compel one to wish to escape, but that lately, the magnitude seems to have grown. He has read most of Thomas Hardy’s Wessex novels and the title of Far from the Madding Crowd seemed to fit the situation. He says, "I don’t think Hardy would object."The show will feature over two dozen of his new drawings in colored pencil.

Barbara Shafer paints the drama of dance and brings inside the energy of the brutal rocks from the shore of Lake Superior. In this, her fourth show at the library, we see her work mature and coalesce around her two favorite subjects.
