IMPORTANCE OF MORNING ASSEMBLY IN THE SCHOOL
(by Peter Gonsalves)
What is it that begins the school every day? You quessed it right - it is the morning assembly of the school.5
minutes of prayer, 1 minute of thought for the day, 2 minutes of a thought provoking speech, 10 minutes of
singing, and 10 minutes of ight physical exercise and the compulsory inspection of uniform and cleanliness it mightoccur as a boring routine to some pupils, but it is a very important part of the school routine The assembly in our school is usually conducted by the members of the House on Duty. The House Captains
and Vice-Captains conduct it under the guidance of the House in-charges and with the help of the school
choir, school band and Physical Education teachers. The entire school assembles in the playground to the
beating of the drums and the routine as described above takes place.Once in a while the Principal or the Vice
Principal ora parent or a visiting dignitary also addresses the assembly.
But perhaps the best part of the assembly is when the whole school sings 'Happy Birthday to you' to the lucky ones who have their birthdays. It is aso a great honour to receive certificates and trophies for various
achievements. The scene inspires many more pupils to aspire to excel.
The assembly is a great way of bringing about a sense of community and belongingness among students. It
also allows an excellent opportunity for some light exercise and health and hygiene checkup.
Later in ife, school morning assemblies form one of the fondest memories ofschool days.
