We are delighted that Yvonne Morris, Senior Teaching and Learning Assistant at Hitherfield, was recognised by the charity SUSTRANS for her work supporting an Air Quality Project with the Hitherfield Eco Ambassadors. Last year the Eco Ambassadors used diffusion tubes to monitor the pollution around the school over several months and analysed the data. They also looked at ways of combating air pollution from vehicles, for example, finding greener routes to walk to school, promoting cycling and scooting and just this week campaigning for Anti Idling. The children were so passionate about the problem that they wrote to the Mayor of London and asked him what he was doing about it. His reply was personal and detailed and was published in the Herald as well as in the Love Lambeth magazine. They did lots of other things too including an air quality project with six other schools in Europe so SUSTRANS decided that they would like to recognise the achievements that Yvonne made with the children by presenting her with a School Champion Award 2019 for exceptional contribution to Sustrans and the Community. We are delighted for Yvonne and send her our congratulations.

Hitherfield’s Maths Challenge

Well done to Leon (Manatee) for completing the challenge. You will receive a

maths sticker in the Good News assembly next week. Don’t forget you can

email the completed maths challenges to the main school office or drop them

off their too.

This week’s maths challenge:

Maths Glossary:

Multiple = A multiple is the product of

multiplying a number by another integer

(whole number) not by a fraction. So for

example: 12 is a multiple of 3 because 3 x 4

= 12.

If you have any Maths words or concepts

that you would like explaining, please let

us know.

Remembrance Sunday

Our two school council co-leads will be laying a wreath on behalf of Hitherfield Primary School and Children’s

Centre at the Streatham War Memorial. Please join them, Mr Ashley-Jones, Jacinta and Mr Hooberman our

Chair of Governors, at the Streatham War Memorial from 10:30am on Sunday 10th November.

Nearest stations: St Paul’s, Mansion House, Bank, Blackfriars

www.lordmayorsshow.london

The Lord Mayor’s Show is 804 years old! The modern Show is a joyful and diverse civic parade of over 6000 people, with dozens of marching bands, military detachments, carriages, dance troupes, inflatables,

giant contraptions and ceremonial displays. Every year is different and surprising, combining London’s ancient pomp, rowdy patchwork heritage and modern dynamism to create a spectacle unlike anything

else in the world. The Show runs from 11 onwards in the City of London but to get the best view you need to get there by about 10.15. The procession runs from Mansion House (at Bank Junction) to the Royal Courts (on the Strand) and back again, then there are guided walks and family entertainment all day.

Celebrate the City: Lord Mayor’s Show Family Festival Museum of London, London Wall

Saturday 9th November 12 – 4pm FREE www.museumoflondon.org.uk/museum-london

Continue the fun of the Lord Mayor's Show with an afternoon packed full of activities to explore fantastic things about London. This year the theme for our activities is ‘The London that never was’. Come and explore

stories of London – past, present and future – that will change how you view the city forever! We have lots of friends from over the City of London and creative partners joining us. Discover the history of Salters’ Hall and help them create a new building, then chat to Tower Bridge about the plans for the bridge which were never

realised. Settle in for a story about London’s ‘Eiffel Tower’ or chill out with some beastly books and hear about London’s wild side with Culture Mile. With plenty of free things for all ages, everyone can continue

revelling in the festive atmosphere.
