PEER SUPPORT TRAININGLast Thursday and Friday our Year 6 students participated

n training to assist them in leading peer support groups in2013. I was most impressed with their commitment to thetasks set before them and their willingness to step outbeyond their comfort zone. I know they will be great peereaders and I would like to thank Mrs Murray for organisingthe day and for the assistance she received from MsConnolly, Mr Lynch, Mrs Hanley and Mr Whelan. ThisMonday 18 February Year 6 will conclude their training witha workshop lead by Cameron Brown

SCRIPTURE LESSONSThis Wednesday all students from Kindergarten to Year 6

will have the opportunity to attend Religious educationclasses. The school follows the Department of Educationand Communities guidelines related to the teaching of SREwith representatives from the various faiths conductingessons across the school every Wednesday morning.Lessons are scheduled for 30 minutes and are divided intotwo groups. Scripture is offered for all students of theCatholic faith and the remainder of students are grouped ina combined protestant scripture lesson lead by scriptureteachers from a variety of local churches. Students areallocated to scripture groups on the information providedby parents when enrolling their children. If you do not wish

your child to participate in scripture lessons please provideWKLVDGYLFHLQZULWLQJWR\RXUFKLOGVWHDFKHU.

SUNSMART POLICYParents are reminded that the school has a No Hat, Play inthe Shade Policy but I would request that all studentsshould have a hat. It is impossible to walk around ourschool without being subjected to the rays of the sun.Students are also encouraged to cover up and to wearsunscreen. Sunscreen is provided at school but it would bebetter to have applied sunscreen to children before theycome to school.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS ASSOCIATIONCOMPETITION BEGINSThis week will see the commencement of interschoolcompetitive team sports. This will mean students willduring the course of the competition, travel by bus tosporting fields outside of Helensburgh. It also means thatthis will be the first opportunity for Year 3 to participate innterschool sports. I would like to wish all our students wellas they try out to have the honour of representing theirschool in a PSSA team.

SCHOOL VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONSOne source of financial provision for the operation of ourschool is by the collection of school contributions.

Voluntary Contributions are set by the P&C Association at

$40 for the first child and $70 for a family. At HelensburghPublic School our voluntary school contributions are usedfor classroom resources and payment would be greatlyappreciated.
