Grade 5 students designed their device from recycled materials to separate different mixtures.

Recyclable materials include many kinds of glass, paper, cardboard, metal, plastic, tires, textiles,

batteries, and electronics. Composting or other reuse of biodegradable waste—such as food or garden

waste—is also a form of recycling.

Our under 11 boys’ football team undertook a huge challenge in Bahrain playing against the British schools in the

Middle East (BMSE). We entered two teams this year due to the vast amount of talent shown by so many students.

Our students got a chance to explore a small part of Bahrain for a couple of days before the competition as they

bonded together. We had the opportunity to explore mosques, malls, a trampoline and a waterpark as well as hard

work on the training field before the completion. This was an excellent opportunity for our students to grow in

character as most of them were travelling abroad without their parents for the very first time. The students were

responsible for their own belongings as well as time keeping as we prayed together in congregation at specific times.

Before the tournament, the teachers stressed the importance of not just winning, but managing our behaviour in the

correct manner, respect was the key aspect of this. All the students managed to uphold these values and showed a

great account of themselves. In the games, our team started in blistering pace, winning all games in the group stages,

comfortably qualifying for the knock out round of the competition. Our victories came against schools from Kuwait,

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

In the quarterfinals, they came up against the eventual winners of the competition. The game was even throughout

with the better chances falling at the feet of our students. Unfortunately, these chances could not be converted into

goals. On the other hand, our opponents converted the one chance they had into a goal and we were eliminated from

the competition. The loss hurt our boys a lot and were very emotional straight after the game but when they realised

the enormity of their achievement, they could raise their heads high and be proud of themselves.

Our second team, which consisted of primarily younger players, were eager to show what they could achieve and the

students gave every bit of energy they could possibly give and were a great credit to our school. They were not

successful in qualifying to the quarterfinals but every teacher and referee commended the sportsmanship of our

teams; they played with great heart and passion as well as with respect to promoting our Islamic values. This is surely

much greater than any victory.

The boys made lifelong friends on this trip and the way they held themselves is great credit to the school, their

teachers and parents. Out of 24 schools starting the competition, coming quarter-finalists is an amazing achievement

and we should all be proud of it.

A trip ABROAD

Mash Allah Grade 4 students had the opportunity to write a newspaper article using newspaper

features. It helped them integrate all reading and writing skills as they read different news articles and

finally wrote their own article. Students learnt how to get an awareness of their surroundings by

reading the latest news and keeping themselves updated about it. They also read their articles to their

classmates which boosted their self-confidence and enriched their speaking skills.

Students had an activity where they were working in groups to match a puzzle. They needed to match the

right rounding question with its solution. A competition was held to see which group finished faster

and presented their work in the best way.

Every tree holds a story and so does the GHAF tree – that of the UAE. The GHAF tree being the UAE’s national

tree symbolizes stability and peace and has the ability to adapt in the desert. The GHAF is a drought-tolerant

tree, able to withstand the harsh desert environment and still remain green. On the 5th of February 2020

students at ISCS Muweileh celebrated the GHAF Tree painting competition initiated by the MOE. Our students

from grade 4 -9 gathered together and got busy spreading colours on blank pages just like the GHAF tree

bringing life in the dry deserts. Once again it was a great pleasure seeing our students’ passion and enthusiasm

taking part in a competition to spread awareness for a great cause.
