ACCREDITATIONS

CURRICULUM

All students in grades 11 and 12 choose 6 IB courses. Those who qualify for and choose to pursue the Full Diploma choose 3 SL and 3 HL courses; IB course studies students choose a range of SL or SL and HL courses. The two-year IB program engages students in a challenging curriculum in an interactive way. Through inquiry and investigation students develop critical thinking skills, and hone their analytical abilities. Students’ IB choices are subject to academic perfor-mance and scheduling parameters. At present, ENKA offers the following IB subjects: Turkish A , English A, English B, French B, German B, Turkish Social Studies SL, Economics, ITGS, Psychology, Global Politics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies SL, Mathematics, Math Studies, Visual Arts, Music.

It should be noted that students must also fulfill all requirements for the Turkish National Diploma and therefore, in addition to studying 6 IB courses and TOK, they take additional Non-IB courses.

LANGUAGE• Bi-lingual instruction, all students study a third language from grades 5-12.• English as the primary language of instruction in High School: → 55% in English for Grades 9-10 (students also learning a third language) →75% in English for Grades 11-12 (students also learning a third language)• High School Math and Science courses are taught in English.

ASSESSMENT & RANKING• All grades in Turkish High Schools are recorded on the Turkish Ministry of Education’s 100 point scale. Students are given grades each semester and the final course grade is an average of the two semesters. GPAs are calculated by multiplying grades by the number of course hours in each course. IB classes are not weighted and are graded on the same 100 Turkish scale. An average of 85 is required to earn high honors, and it is rare for students to do so. An average of 70 is required to earn academic honors and passing grade is 50.

COMMUNITY SERVICECommunity Service is highly emphasized at the core of ENKA School’s mission and this is reflected throughout K-12. Students in the middle and high school are expected to meet minimum community service hours. Students volunteer regularly throughout Istanbul as well as in community service projects throughout Turkey and internationally. For the past several years, groups of students and teachers have traveled to under-developed areas in Turkey and abroad to help disadvantaged children in Baksi, Finike, and Nepal and other locations.

The co-curricular program plays an important role in the educational program we provide at ENKA. Students are offered nearly 70 club and 30 a er-school activity choices, giving them a wide range of social, cultural, and sporting options. Some of the options include:

Each year the school and students organize many key events, including a dance festival, film festival and MUN conference, Turkish and English drama productions, year-end performances, local and international celebrations and festivals. All of these provide our students with many opportunities to express them-selves.

ENKA is affiliated by THIMUN, European Youth Parliament, and has a Global Member Round Square School since 2011. Through the Round Square programs, students have the opportunity to partici-pate in overseas service projects, school exchanges, and global conferences.

Many students take the opportunities ENKA provides through its incredible athletic, arts, performing arts, and music facilities to pursue their interests and passions in these areas. ENKA student athletes, musicians, and artists are highly successful participants in teams, competitions, and exhibitions both nationally and interna-tionally. Several students have ranked at the top in world champion-ship events. In addition the school offers team and club sports in over 10 sports. Our Arts students participate in clubs and activities such as: theatre, school chamber orchestra, various music groups, film creation and film festival, art club, photography club, and art projects with Turkish Museums.
