Syllabus

COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis class provides students with an opportunity to learn about Theatrical Costuming, Hair, & Make-up in an artistic setting during the school day. Students will learn about the fundamentals of hair, stage make-up, and sewing through lecture and hands-on experience. It is the expectation that the students of this class will learn what it takes to put together production-level work with each assignment.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

You are expected to enter the room in a quiet and orderly manner and sit in your seat. (Seating will not be assigned unless a problem occurs.) The day’s agenda and home learning for the day will always be on the board. Upon your entrance, you are to begin working on your bell ringer in your notebook. You will have eight minutes to complete your bell ringer. Bell ringers will be discussed daily and graded periodically.

TARDIES

You are late to class if you are not sitting in your seat when the bell rings (Note: Running into the classroom as the bell rings does not count as being on time.)

If you are late to class, you must come in with a note. You won’t be allowed in without one. (Do not interrupt others that are working.)

ABSENCES

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up any work you missed in a timely manner. Assignments will only be accepted with an excused absence slip from the office, and they are due upon your return to school. You will be given one week to make up a missed test, as long as you have an excused absence slip from the office. It is your responsibility to find out what you missed from me, I will not hunt you down to get your work in.

Failure to complete any missing assignments by the deadline will result in a grade of Z.

*Please look to the Student Code of Conduct and Parent Contract for information on the school’s policies regarding “excused” and “unexcused” absences and tardies, along with any additional rules or details that may be of interest to you.

TURNING IN ASSIGNMENTS

I will NOT be accepting any late work. I will always give you the fair amount of time to complete assignments. You must turn in your work upon collection of the assignment. Failing to complete an assignment on time will result in a grade of Z and cannot be made up.

You should come to class prepared to turn in the assignment on the day it is due. It should be ready to be discussed or collected when requested, there will be no time in class to try to finish your work.

If you are planning to be out of town the day an assignment is due and you know in advance of the absence, then you must turn in your assignment early. It will not be accepted when you come back.

RESTROOM AND HALLWAY PASSES

Only one student is allowed out of the classroom at a time. Should you have to use the restroom, you must make sure the hall pass is hanging on the door. If it is not there, you must sign your name on the list and wait for the pass to return. You should not be out of the class for more than 5 minutes to use the restroom. Abusing of the system will result in a loss of bathroom privileges.

Interrupting class to ask to use the restroom is disruptive to the class and the lesson. Please do not do so.

EXITING THE ROOM

In order for students to leave the room they must be quiet and in their seats. The room must be clean (pick up after your-self), chairs and desks in order, computer programs closed, and the used materials for the day must be in their place. I dismiss you, not the bell or the clock. Standing by the door or by my desk will not be tolerated.

VIOLATION OF THE RULES/PROCEDURES

There will be consequences when failing to follow these policies. The severity of the consequences will depend on the frequency of the behavior and intention of the student. Consequences will include verbal warnings, parent contact, detentions, written referrals, and parent-teacher conferences, as well as limited privileges in the classroom and/or school activities.
