HHH NEWS HORMEL HISTORIC HOME...where the past inspires the present

Hospitality ~ Education ~ Music ~ History November/December, 2020

The fall and holiday seasons should be a time to celebrate and marvel

over the fact that another year is coming to an end. In many ways I

think all of us are ready to move past the pandemic era of 2020, but I

anticipate 2021 opening with much of the same reality we are

currently facing.

Despite that reality, the Hormel Historic Home is offering a few

events that will hopefully provide joy and enrichment in a safe format.

We’ll still have music, history, autism awareness, holiday décor and

Santa all within a few weeks, but we’ll be doing so while observing

safety protocols such as the wearing of masks and limited capacity.

We hope to be able to host our annual events in 2021 like the

Wedding & Event Showcase and the Foodie Throwdown, but plans

are currently uncertain. I hope you will stay tuned to our calendar as

we try new things in order to fulfill the vision of George and Lillian

Hormel for their home to be a valuable resource for the community.

Stay well and stay in touch, Holly

With funding from the Hormel Foundation the HHH and Autism Friendly Austin has recently invested in expanding the Project Lifesaver program in Mower County.

6 members of the Austin Fire and Police Departments and 3 from the Mower County Sheriff’s Dept. have now received training in this important program aimed at assisting emergency personnel in locating vulnerable people who are prone to wander.

ASD Parent/Caregiver Network Event via Zoom

Monday, November 16 ~ FREE Autism and Sensory Considerations

Presented by: Eric Ringgenberg, AuSM Education Program Director

This session will discuss sensory processing, including our eight sensory systems and differences that may impact individuals

with ASD.

A review will be given of sensory strategies to address sensory sensitivities.

Covid-19 History Project will give voice to all ages and demographics to share the impact from

this historic season. People are struggling right now, but there have been some blessings mixed

in as well. We need to hear the stories to preserve them and allow the future to learn from

them.

Shopping has become more of a challenge during Covid-19.

Let the HHH help!

Have a reader on your list? Consider giving The Open Road, the autobiography of George A. Hormel. Available in print or in e-book format.

Need a stocking stuffer? How about a trendy t-shirt honoring the value of sausage.

How about a music lover? A cd of jazz classics created by the Hormel family band would make a great gift.

A history buff? A Fine Hom e on W ater Street provides a historical review of how the Hormel family made Austin their home. We’ll even do the wrapping!
