RULES GOVERNING INDEPENDENT STUDY

1. Inc1opem1ent study is defined as any acac"!cmic, planned program a student contracts to undertake for one cycle, which is not incluc1ec1 in that cycle's curricular offerings, The program may be planned, conc1uctor1 anc1 ovaluatoc1 either with a Metro staff teacher or with a parson no-t a member of the Hotro staff anc1 a Hetro staff contact, Plannin<J must include an initial conference at v7hich a contract (Program Planner) is \vri tten and agroec1 to, This contract shall include arrangements for requirements, weekly conferences, credit to he avmrc1er1 and criteria for evaluation of tho inclepenc1ont s·tuc1y. This contract shall ~)o rotainor1 by tho stuc1ent, tho teacher-sponsor and tho Principal,

2, Students may take only one independent study per cycle. A student may, hovmvor, petition tho Principal for a relaxation of this rule.

3. An inc1ependont study may be awardoc1 a maximum of two points. i.i. student may, however, petition tho Princi;,al for an extension of points up to a maximum of fivo points,
