W H O W E A R E Heritage Christian School is a prekindergarten through

eighth grade interdenominational Christian school that opened in the fall of 1992 with 37 students. Today, Heritage serves over 110 families and 210 students, pre-K through 8th grade, in the North Liberty, Coralville, and Iowa City area. The school’s impact continues to spread. Twenty-nine full and part-time faculty and staff who have a passion for Christ, children and the school strive to fulfill our mission.

The unique mission at Heritage allows our passionate faculty and staff the freedom to teach and disciple students according to biblical truths, connecting Christ in all classroom subjects. Holding fast to God’s Word raises our standard of excellence in all things, including, but not limited to, academics.

Our students consistently score higher proficiency in reading and mathematics than area public schools on the Iowa Assessments. Heritage students in area high schools are readily recognized as well-behaved, respectful, hardworking and well prepared for the next segment of their academic journey.

Why Heritage?CHRIST-CENTERED CURRICULUMHeritage Christian School believes that the teaching of biblical truths cannot be relegated solely to the home and church when children are being taught opposing worldviews at school. Therefore, HCS strives for academic excellence using curriculum that teaches from a biblical world view, presented in a loving Christian environment that reinforces rather than erodes the values of the Christian home and church.

SMALL CLASS SIZESClasses at Heritage are capped at 20 students. Small class sizes allow our teachers to not only teach in an individualized manner, but also disciple the students in their classrooms.

EXEMPLARY ACADEMICSEach day presents an academically challenging opportunity for our students. Most students perform a year ahead of the national averages, and when 8th graders graduate, guidance counselors at the local high schools recommend that Heritage students take Advanced Placement courses their freshman year.

A COMMUNITY OF FAMILIES AND STAFFThe families at Heritage are a well-connected community. Parents and staff maintain close relationships to ensure that each child is getting their individual needs met. We believe each child to be a unique creation of God’s own image. Our passionate staff desires to see these children live out their God-given potential and glorify Him with their gifts.

Over 30 local churches are represented at Heritage

Academically ChallengingBibleThrough the reading of the Scriptures, modeling a relationship with Christ and applying Truth in our lives and in our classrooms, we hope to build in the minds of our students a knowledge of the faithful acts of their Heavenly Father.

MathSymmetry, shape, consistency, detail, patterns and God’s infinite nature can all be discovered in creation. With a thorough understanding of math, students are able to know more of who God is.

ScienceThrough direct experimentation, observation, collecting data, researching texts and reviewing what has been done in the past, students better understand the scientific principles God has created in this world.

HistoryStudying historical events through a Biblical worldview, students develop an understanding of many other subject matters, including science, mathematics, economics, art, religion and culture.

Language ArtsWithin the skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, students’ abilities to comprehend and defend the Truth grow resulting in the formation of deeper relationships and a better understanding of other cultural, religious and socioeconomic perspectives.

Extracurricular Programs:It is our responsibility to equip students to use their talents and gifts to honor Christ and experience future success intellectually, socially, physically and creatively. The extracurricular programs at Heritage are expanding rapidly. Visit our website for an updated list of extracurricular opportunities.

Academically Challenging The Authority of Scripture

(2 Timothy 3:15-17)

The Priority of Parenting (Deuteronomy 6:7-9, Psalm 127:3-4) God entrusts parents with the responsibility of raising children. Our desire is to assist them in the accomplishment of the task.

The Uniqueness of the Child (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:13-16, 1 Corinthians 12:18-20) As image-bearers of God, each child is unique and valuable, possessing individual gifts, talents, and needs.

Christ-Centered Excellence (Proverbs 2:6-8; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Ephesians 3:12-23; Philippians 4:8; Colossians 1:16-18; Colossians 3:23; Titus 2:6-8) Striving for biblical faithfulness and continued improvement in all aspects of the school; rationale for academic rigor, educational effectiveness, parent/student/teacher relationships, world-view development, strength of leadership, integrity, transparency and fiscal responsibility.
