UPDATE: SBIR/STTR SOLICITATION FY2018 NEW RELEASE DATE FOR SBIR/STTR SOLICITATION 2018The 2018 NASA SBIR/STTR Solicitation will be released early next year instead of November when the Solicitation is typically made available*. The Solicitation will include two NASA programs with separate research areas under which small business concerns are invited and encouraged to submit proposals.

Background on the NASA program, participant eligibility requirements, and information on both the three program phases and submitting responsive proposals are currently available at https://sbir.nasa.gov/.

PROPOSAL

PREPARATION

It’s never too early to begin preparation for the Solicitation. The SBIR/STTR programs have multiple learning opportunities to help you prepare for submitting a proposal:

» Industry Day SBIR 101 Training

» Online trainings on https://sbir.nasa.gov/

» Upcoming webinars

NASA SBIR/STTR wants to help you build connections at Industry Day to make your innovation a reality. At registration, each attendee is provided with a color-coded name tag to easily identify who to network with.

STANDING OUT IN THE CROWD AT INDUSTRY DAY

The Concept – Summer 2017

INDUSTRY DAY LIGHTNING ROUNDS HIGHLIGHT RFI FEEDBACKBe sure to make time in your schedule to check out a lightning round panel discussion at Industry Day! These discussions will provide a glimpse into feedback received by NASA on its Request for Information (RFI) Notice for the SBIR/STTR program and 2017 Solicitation.

Earlier this year, we provided firms around the country with the opportunity to offer feedback by responding to the RFI. We also encouraged firms to share ideas on potential new subtopics for consideration in the development of next year’s Solicitation. There was a great response and we appreciate the effort taken to share your thoughts with us.

We are taking a comprehensive approach to reviewing all the great feedback and suggestions received. The lightning round panel discussions will address how your insight is being used for the upcoming Solicitation.

NASA SBIR/STTR INDUSTRY DAY PREVIEWKEYNOTE SPEAKER JAMES L. REUTER

Industry Day keynote speakers provide attendees with a

rare opportunity to learn about SBIR/ STTR funding at

NASA directly from agency leadership. Mark your calendar

on June 26 for an Industry Day presentation by James L.

Reuter, Deputy Associate Administrator for STMD at NASA

Headquarters.

STMD is responsible for developing the crosscutting,

pioneering and new technologies and capabilities needed

by the agency to achieve its current and future missions.

Mr. Reuter provides executive leadership and management

of the technology programs within STMD, with an annual

investment value of $600 million.

LEARN ABOUT TECHNICAL NEEDS AT INDUSTRY DAY

During Industry Day, attendees can become familiar with NASA’s technical needs to prepare for upcoming proposal submissions. The second and third days provide a number of presentations, lightning round panel discussions with attendee question time, and One-on-One sessions for attendees to better understand technical needs and subtopics

The Concept – Summer 2017

During Industry Day lunch sessions, we

are making it easier for attendees to meet

with like-minded colleagues and potential

partners to discuss NASA technical areas

of shared interest. Each lunch table will display a technical

area sign to help guide attendees to the most appropriate

discussion table. Participation is optional – you can drive the

conversation or simply listen in.

Attendees are encouraged to speak directly

with NASA staff about programmatic-,

mission directorate-, technical-focused

issues through One-on-One sessions. This is

an effective way to ask clarifying questions on technical topics

and the SBIR/STTR programmatic process. Space is limited

and sessions are not guaranteed for all attendees.

MAXIMIZE YOUR INDUSTRY DAY NETWORKINGNASA SBIR/STTR Industry Day provides two great opportunities for attendees to connect and network.

What can you learn from a drop of blood? Quite a lot! DNA Medicine Institute, through NASA’s SBIR program, developed a comprehensive blood analysis system that can be used on missions to generate a health profile for a range of conditions from just one drop of blood.

NASA needed sophisticated software to create multi-mission plans more efficiently. As part of NASA’s SBIR program, Stottler Henke Associates, Inc. solved this problem for NASA by developing a sophisticated scheduling system called Aurora™. The software is designed to make decisions like humans but much faster using artificial intelligence.

Tethers Unlimited, Inc. pioneered a water-electrolysis propulsion system called HYDROS for NASA to achieve green fuel goals. This environmentally-friendly solution powers CubeSats, a type of miniaturized satellite, which play a valuable role in NASA’s science, technology, and educational investigations.
