Heany Park Primary School Newsletter March 26, 2020 Edition 5 From the Principal’s Desk We are facing a new challenge with the Coronavirus that is demonstrating just how interconnected the world is. We want to ensure we look after our Heany Park Community and though we can’t connect face to face currently, we want to stay connected in other ways. Well-being: Yesterday I sent through Compass some important phone numbers of organisations that can help with well-being. None of us know how we are going to cope with this new situation. Please call for help if you feel you need it or someone in your family does. I will attach this to the newsletter today. Teaching and Learning: Teachers at this stage resume school on 14 April. This is a pupil free day across the state of Victoria. Students commence back on 15 April. We have made a plan for remote learning should students be unable to return to school due to the Coronavirus. In this scenario on 15 April this Learning Plan will be launched via Compass. The plan will cover different amounts of days for each area of the school so we can transition to having one team planning each day for the next week of learning. So after this first plan you will then receive the learning plan for a period of a week each time. This table explains this further. Feedback: The plans will not be perfect. Parents have told us they would like a timetable so we have structured it around a timetable similar to school. This will not suit everybody. Please do your best and send feedback through compass or directly to me, so we can adjust the learning plans to be realistic, challenging, educational and achievable.

    From the Principal’s Desk

We are facing a new challenge with the Coronavirus that is demonstrating just how interconnected the world is.

Teacher contact with your child during remote learning: The plan is that teachers will touch base individually at least once a week with your child. They will touch base on other days with your child as part of a learning group. We are planning to divide each class into three learning groups and develop an online platform to remotely communicate. More will be sent home about this as we develop guidelines and boundaries around expectations for this. This is all new for everybody and we are trying our best to think things through in order to provide our students with the best learning opportunities at this difficult time. For now please try and enjoy the holiday break. Keep safe and upbeat and support each other. Please contact me if you need any support and you think we may be of any assistance.

Kind regards Janet Evison Principal [email protected]
