Increasing Your Cybersecurity Posture: The Value of Partnering with a Healthcare Exclusive MSSP

Many healthcare organizations today are hiring managed security service providers (MSSP) to manage specific security initiatives, or in some cases, outsourcing their entire security program. This approach is especially beneficial to those that have limited IT resources, lack internal security expertise, struggle to hire security talent, or simply need to implement a security program faster than they could in-house. But hiring an MSSP without the specific healthcare experience can pose just as much risk as cyber threats and attacks. Dan Dodson, President of Fortified Health Security will discuss best practices for IT leaders to use when evaluating MSSPs and the importance of choosing the right partner. Topics include• Understanding the nuances of securing a healthcare environment• Key skills, certifications, and experience necessary for an effective healthcare MSSP• Real-life examples of damage and disruption that can be caused by an inexperienced cybersecurity team

3:00PM – 5:00PM BUSINESS MEETINGS

3:00PM – 3:45PM THINK TANK: EXPLORING CYBER SECURITY STRATEGIES IN HEALTHCARE

The healthcare industry continues to struggle with how to address medical device security in their environments. Acknowledging that these devices potentially leverage cloud-based processing and storage, as well as potentially have local storage; this data, and the connected medical devices that create it, are changing how healthcare organizations are run and how clinicians assess, diagnose, treat, and interact with their patients. However, any networked device that can receive, collect, store or transmit data also has the potential to be compromised.• What are some methods that you can identify / quantify the magnitude of devices in your environment?• How do healthcare organizations balance the value and risk of Medical IoT? • How can healthcare organizations effectively manage and protect all these devices? Securely managing Medical IoT requires automated visibility and unified policies for sensors and devices and the data they generate; advanced detection enhanced with real-time threat intelligence; and centralized control that can automatically coordinate response. This Think Tank session will explore how and why cybercriminals target IoMT devices, and how these threats can be mitigated.

4:00PM – 4:45PM THINK TANK: TECHNIQUES FOR MAXIMIZING EFFICIENCIES WHILE IMPROVING PATIENT CARE

Many healthcare organizations are continually challenged with a never ending stream of requests to keep their lights on. The requests continually pile up, while users become increasingly frustrated with how long it takes to get things done. The cycle then continues while costs increase and reimbursements rates decrease, requiring all to do more with less. It’s no wonder that maximizing efficiencies while improving patient care can seem like a tangled web. In this session, Bluetree Network’s Melissa Bruss and Tye Cook will discuss techniques for evaluating cost controlling options in an IT environment where system maintenance costs must be driven down in order to create capacity and funding for innovative solutions. The following will be discussed:

5:00PM – 5:45PM IMPROVING THE CAREGIVER EXPERIENCE

Historically, Information Technology is marketed to healthcare executives with claims of improving patient outcomes, reducing costs, and driving transformation. Doctors are continually being invited to seminars on blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet of Things. While these technologies are revolutionary and will find their purpose, they don’t focus on improving the caregiver experience. Caregivers need reliable, evolutionary technology that assists with the basics, avoids the hype, and allows them to focus on the patient. In this session, Sam Bagchi, MD, Chief Medical Officer/Chief Medical Information Officer for CHRISTUS HEALTH will discuss using technology to enable and enhance the caregiver experience.

5:45PM – 6:30PM PROVIDER BURNOUT: EXPLORING EMR’S UNINTENDED OUTCOME AND ACTIONS TO MITIGATE THIS RISK

The Penn Medicine EMR has been LIVE for two years across all entities and service areas: inpatient, ambulatory, outpatient, home care, hospice, behavioral health, HIM and billing. Finance is pleased with the positive cash flow, charging and other business outcomes. Clinicians and providers love the many benefits of clinical integration. That said, today’s EMR solutions push much of the required “computer time” out to the end user. This has contributed to a growing problem of “provider burnout”. During this session, Tom will review key data from a provider survey that was taken 18 months after the GO LIVE, in which provider burnout was highlighted as a concern. He will review the initiatives Penn Medicine is taking to address this growing concern. Key initiatives include:• Establishing a dynamic engagement model• Delivering digital innovation• Maximizing core systems• Mastering the data explosion

8:15AM – 9:15AM EFFECTIVELY MEETING THE CYBERSECURITY CHALLENGE: STRATEGIES, TIPS AND TACTICS

With the growth of blockchain technology, IoT devices, big data, the cloud and telemedicine as well as trends in automatic workstation log-offs, the proliferation of removable media devices and an increasingly connected patient population, it is no surprise that cybersecurity is now at the top of the agenda for most healthcare leaders. 2016 research shows healthcare executives’ top privacy and security concern is breaches and many healthcare organizations have been increasing their investment in cybersecurity spending since 2013. Healthcare data is unique which makes the privacy and security of it so critical. While credit cards can be cancelled when lost or stolen, medical records can be compromised for years. In this panel session, leading Chief Information Security Officers will examine the myriad ways in which hospitals and health systems should remain vigilant to combat these ongoing threats as well as discuss strategies and solutions for preventing vulnerabilities.

9:15AM – 10:00AM APPLYING A FUTURE-FOCUSED, WORKFLOW-DRIVEN APPROACH TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATIONS AT VAIL HEALTH

Colorado-based Vail Health wanted to improve their clinicians’ mobile experience with best-in-class workflow-driven technology. When hospital leadership gave the OK to do things differently, Darrell Messersmith, VP of Information Technology and CIO, seized the opportunity to shape the next evolution of hospital communications with enterprise technology that would drive clinical transformation. Consensus among healthcare organizations is that mobile technology is improving patient safety and outcomes, with 96 percent of hospitals budgeting or investing in comprehensive clinical communication platforms, according to a 2018 report from Black Book Market Research. But not all solutions fit the bill of a comprehensive platform. In this session, Darrell will share firsthand stories, including lessons learned and strategies employed at Vail Health to establish a unified platform that improves care collaboration throughout the system. He will outline how Vail replaced several existing methods of communication; automated manual and paper-based processes for on-call scheduling and code calls; and improved patient safety and patient and provider satisfaction. The discussion will provide both IT and clinical insights into the rollout of an enterprise-wide communication platform for secure mobile messaging, clinical alerting, emergency notification, physician on-call scheduling, and contact center efficiency, and will:• Explain the goals and benefits of taking a mobile- and cloud-first approach to clinical communications• Identify how the communication platform and EHR complement each other• Design a diverse group of stakeholders deeply involved in and committed to the project• Demonstrate, with real-world experiences, how the communication platform can be leveraged to improve the patient and provider experience

10:00AM – 10:45AM THINK TANK:PATIENT CARE TECHNIQUES APPLIED TO CYBERSECURITY

Cybersecurity attacks are on the rise and medical devices used in patient care are no exemption. In healthcare, security is seen as “that thing” IT needs to do to protect PHI/PII or the job of the firewall guy. But as many now know, it rarely ends there. Security touches almost every aspect of the Health Delivery Organization (HDO) and is a shared responsibility across multiple stakeholders. As a security leader or practitioner for a HDO, you can take lessons from the clinicians on how to solve security challenges. In this interactive Think Tank Session, Rob Bathurst will examine the classic clinical care team, common IT silos issues, and how care concepts can be applied to security to form a stronger, more agile team to respond to the ever-changing threats in healthcare.

11:00AM – 11:45AM THINK TANK: STRATEGIES TO CAPITALIZE ON THE IT REVOLUTION IN HEALTHCARE

Healthcare is one of the most evolutionary industries in the world. Innovative technology has propelled the field forward, picking up momentum with each passing year. Whether it’s the latest technology to aid in improving patient health, or increasing operational capacity and scale, information technology has become a solid foundation to support these capabilities. The real question is, can healthcare IT leaders keep up with the fast paced environment? Digital transformation isn’t ending anytime soon and leaders who aren’t leading this transformation may get left behind.Let’s talk strategy and technology. This session will discuss keeping up with innovative technology and will discuss key topics such as:• Successful strategies during organizational digital maturity• Newest technology trends and how this will impact the healthcare industry• Utilizing technology for the best patient / customer outcomes• IT, security and data collaboration

12:45PM – 1:30PM FINDING THE TIME AND RESOURCES FOR YOUR MOST STRATEGIC PROJECTS BY EMBRACING A MANAGED SERVICES MODEL FOR EHR SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE

Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) faced a challenge. As a part of its partnerships and coordinated care strategy, it wanted to explore several affiliate partnerships. But extending an EHR to large affiliates is no small task. With strong, but limited internal resources, it was evident that additional help would be needed. Furthermore, now with EHR hosting responsibilities, LLUH would need to offer these affiliates white-glove EHR support. Join Doug Turner, executive director of IS rapid-cycle deployment for LLUH, and learn how his team solved these challenges by moving to an application managed services (AMS) model for EHR support and maintenance. In this session, we will discuss how Loma Linda University Health • Decided to explore a managed services model• Evaluated the available partners in the application managed services (AMS) space• Planned how to best integrate the managed services partner with internal staff

2:15PM – 3:00PM THINK TANK: PEOPLE, PROCESS, AND TECHNOLOGY: HOW TO OPERATIONALIZE YOUR CYBERSECURITY PROGRAM

Buying shiny new security technology can certainly help your healthcare organization ensure proper cybersecurity. However, relying solely on technology to keep your organization safe has for too long been a misconception that many fall victim to. The problem is not that technology couldn’t improve the health of your cybersecurity program, but that technology needs implementation, strategy, and follow-through to be effective. Are you sure you have the right people with the right tools using the right strategy to address your cybersecurity risks?Knowing your security posture and where you are on your cybersecurity journey is the first step in operationalizing your cybersecurity program. This session will discuss:• Evaluating the needs of a healthcare organization to identify which area to focus on• Calculating perceived vs actual value of a cybersecurity investment• Identifying what specific tools are needed to address your security risk

3:15PM – 4:00PM THINK TANK: THE CONNECTED HOSPITAL AND THE IMPACT ON PATIENT SAFETY AND CYBERSECURITY RISK MANAGEMENT

Healthcare delivery organizations are increasingly reliant upon a multitude of different network connected IoT, operational technology, and medical devices (healthcare IoT or “HIoT”) that drive gains in hospital efficiency and improve patient outcomes. This increasing connectivity and reliance on a wide variety of devices and systems has introduced a new spectrum of risks to patient safety that need to be addressed. This interactive Think Tank session will discuss the growing problem of HIoT including asset identification & management, and risk analysis & mitigation. You will have an opportunity to share and learn about leading practices from other healthcare technology and security executives and thought leaders in the realm of healthcare cybersecurity.

In recent years, the United States has seen a number of devastating storms and resulting floods on its coasts, tornadoes in the Midwest, and unprecedented wildfires in California and other western states. Major disasters have an effect on healthcare information needs; for the often millions of people who have to evacuate, leaving the places where they normally receive care and where their healthcare records are housed, HIEs play a large role in disaster relief efforts.During Hurricane Florence, The Georgia Regional Academic Community Health Information Exchange (GRAChIE), which serves healthcare groups and providers in Georgia, set up connections with South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Florida members of the eHealth Exchange, a national health data-sharing network that includes 75 percent of US hospitals. While disaster response is never perfect, the building HIE-to-HIE connections throughout the region, in preparation for a natural disaster, speaks to the power of HIEs.Tara Cramer and Omer Awan, GRAChIE’s Executive Director and Chairman respectively, will share their journey and experiences from recent natural disasters and will further describe how beyond their vital role during disasters, there is tremendous value in the day-to-day exchange of health information to provide the type of integrated, seamless healthcare that patients expect.

5:00PM – 5:45PM THE IMPORTANCE OF CIOS IN M&AS

Pressure from employers and government for more value-based payment arrangements is leading to new affiliations and alliances across the country as the healthcare industry seeks to produce better outcomes, lower costs and higher patient satisfaction. In addition, combined entities are hoping to achieve the scale that gives them more influence with purchasers, suppliers and consumers of their products and services. As a result, the number of healthcare M&As continues to increase at a remarkable rate. In an industry in which data, technology and technical capability play an increasingly important role, the role of the CIO has never been more critical, and CIOs must prepare themselves from the onset of an M&A with strategies and tools to optimize the transition.• Establishing clear IT strategic objectives with the leadership team, giving balanced emphasis on technology, data and talent• Gaining support for data governance, definition and stewardship across the organization • Highlighting the value of the newly combined data assets• Demonstrating value as a forward-thinking and transformational leader

10:00AM – 11:00AM STRATEGIES AND SOLUTIONS TO MEET THE CHALLENGES AND CONCERNS OF TODAY’S HEALTHCARE IT LEADERS: A PANEL DISCUSSION

The U.S. Healthcare Industry is dynamic, complex and evolving. It is gradually transitioning away from a traditional fee-for-service model to one that incorporates value into the payment equation with the objectives of managing populations of health and creating better patient outcomes in a cost efficient manner. As providers are under pressure to adjust to the new payment models created by insurers and Medicare, they have to respond to the new environment of Shared Risk, Accountable Care and Pay for Value. In the midst of all this, what are the biggest challenges and concerns plaguing Healthcare IT Leaders today? How are these uncertainties affecting their daily routines as well as their short and long term goals for the organization? We are fortunate to have a very strong and influential group of Healthcare IT Executives from a diverse group of Hospitals and Healthcare systems across the U.S. to share their perspectives on some of these issues. Attendees will be surveyed pre-event to ascertain their most common challenges in today’s healthcare environment. This information will be provided to the panelists for an open and interactive discussion. Join this interactive session, armed with your own questions and concerns that relate to what you are facing in your organization today and what you feel is needed in order to meet these challenging demands.

When you enter the lobby of La Cantera Resort & Spa, you’ll find that the lobby space was built to resemble the “Big House” at King Ranch. The wood beams in the ceiling, the roaring stone fireplace in the lobby and the look of Sire Bar’s rustic colors and furnishings, all tie back to the “Big House” at the King Ranch.
