School Uniform: Please Label

As it’s nearing the end of the year, could you please take the time to label your child’s uniform. Sometimes children accidentally

come home with other children’s belongings because they are not labelled. An increasing number of children have been losing their

bomber jackets/jumpers. To be replacing lost property at this time of year is an unnecessary expense for families.

2014 Book Pack Orders: Distributed Monday 25th November, Return before Friday, 6th December

The 2014 Book Pack information will be sent home with current Grade Prep-5 students on Monday, 25th

November.

All Book Pack order forms, Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA), and Credit Agreement forms must be returned to the

office no later than Friday, 6th

December, 2013 to enable us to finalise the order with our supplier. Please attend to this promptly.

As in previous years, we have endeavoured to keep costs down for parents.

(Please note: Book Pack Information for 2014 Preps will be posted to families and distributed to the White Hills Kinder on

Wednesday, 20th

November. Order forms will need to be returned on Orientation Day on Tuesday, 3rd

December.)

rd and Friday, 24

th January 2014 from 9.30am – 1.00pm. Minimum

costs to be paid when collecting book packs are outlined in Section A of the Book Pack Information (ie. the Book Pack, student

photocopying and computer requisites charges). The Uniform Shop will be open for the payment and collection of orders.

Costing for 2014 Book Packs (Part A) are: Preps - $107.00, Grade 1 - $103.00, Grade 2 - $104.00, Grade 3 - $100.00, Grade 4 –

$79.00, Grade 5 – $193.00 and Grade 6 - $193.00 Payment is due on Book Pack collection days.

Please note that parents at White Hills PS will not be able to allocate their EMA payment towards the cost of the school Book

Pack, student photocopying and computer requisites charges (Part A), however you will be able to allocate your EMA payment

towards prepayment of Special Events and any other expenses.

Orientation Day Orientation Day for those children commencing school in 2014 will be on Tuesday, 3

rd December from 10.30am to 1.30 pm.

During this day the children will be participating in play and activities while their parents attend an information session in the hall.

Details of this transition session were sent home with the children at their familiarisation session this week. If you did not receive

this information please see Jan Ellis. Please mark this date on your calendar so you and your child can participate in this important

transition session.

On this day children from Grade 6 will spend the day at their chosen Secondary Schools, while children in Grades1-6 in 2014 will

be given the opportunity to work in each of their new grades for 2014 during this morning so they can become familiar with each

room.

Pupil Free Day: Thursday, 5th December

Thursday, 5th

December is a School Council approved curriculum day. Children do NOT attend school on this day.

Teachers will be working on the mathematics component of the new Australian Curriculum. Please add this date to your diary /

calendar.

Top Tips To Helping Your Kids Excel (Tips from the Smith Family)

Create a quiet time for your child to study at home, and make it part of the family’s routine.

Read to your child.

Praise your child for asking questions and encourage them to seek the answers through resources such as the local library and the

internet. Ask your child what they’re learning at school and try to reinforce it at home.

Whole School Carols Night: Wednesday, 18th December

Our school Carols Night will be held on Wednesday, 18th

December in our school grounds. The night will commence with families

bringing their own basket tea at 6.00pm, the school band will commence playing at 6:15pm, followed at 6.30pm by class

performances. It is expected that the night will conclude before 8.00pm.

As all children at the school will be involved in this night we ask that parents keep this date free and we look forward to your

attendance.

The format of the Carols Night is as follows:

The event is alcohol-free. As the evening involves children, we ask that parents, friends and relatives do not bring alcohol.

The playground area is out of bounds during the performances. We ask that parents supervise their children (of all ages) to

ensure they are not on the playground during performance times.

School buildings and grounds are smoke-free. This is a state law.

School children are to be seated in their class groups in front of the stage area so they are ready to go on for their performance.

They should not be sitting with their family.

Adults should display good audience behaviours by facing towards the performers and limit their talk whilst performances are

taking place.

Aerobics Aerobics trials have been and gone and students have been selected for teams. This year we will have 4 teams competing in the

National Schoolaerobics competition. Two teams will be competing in a Stage 1 section, one team in a Stage 2 and for the first time

we will be having a team of 4 complete in a different section. If your child tried out for a team and still does not know if they made

it or not they need to come and see Miss Smith in the BER building ASAP.

We would like to welcome our new coaches Kristy Williams and Kaitlyn Gedye who will be coaching a Stage 1 team each. And we

would like to welcome back returning coaches Alison Sartori, Stage 2, and Jaclyn Smith who will be coaching our team of 4.

If you have any questions regarding your child please feel free to speak with your child’s coach.

This walk is in Bendigo National Park and the track to the saddle,

and a lovely place to snack and enjoy the view, takes about 30

minutes. From there a steeper track goes up to a viewing point

where you can see across Ravenswood to the Calder Highway. It is

a beautiful area of bush with many interesting features.
