VACATION DAYS

Hurrah! \"acat ion time is almos t here! That is indeed a happy thoug ht for all the hard working boys and g irl s who ha ve had to g o to ~chool for nine month s. with very few hol idays .

Vacation! \ Vhat a pleasant feeling it is to kno w that there is no more getting up early and rushing to school- tha t is, not for three wonderful mo nths-no more worry ing over lessons . re-port cards, final exam s, or detention hall s. Three months to spend with out the slightest thought of school! \ ,\That student is there who doesn't look forward to the good old ,acat1on davs' Teach-crS too. 'we can at least suppose, will be very glad fo r school to be out.

For the person who is fortunate enough to go away for the summ er there is the pleasure of seeing things-new fac es, new places, and yes. even ge tting new clothes. The clothes will interest the girls at least. And there is also pleasure for the persons who must stay at home in the summer. They call it stay ing at home, but do they really stay? Not much! (Of course home is a very nice place to hang one's hat). Such sports as swimming, picnicing, fi shing, camping, and hiking can be enjoyed by those who do not leave the city during vacation days.

Vacation days! Lazy days! These go hand in hand. Lots of fun is to he had from these wonderful, carefree days! Come on. let's all enjoy them! B. P.

A "WORKING" VACATION

Vacation days will be "working days" for the majority of Sun set s tudents. V\ihen I say working days I do not mean neces-sarily getting out in the hot sun and doing manual labor, but there will be times when you work your father or mother or whoever has the most control over the family bus. ,There will a lso be· times when you work Dad for the show money. For some of you this will be pretty hard work.

1 1en vaca tion cays egin. a num er wt en er 1c sa es t -

ship field. T hey will pr6bably begin hy selling their fathers the idea of taking the family to some place where they can see the snow melt and can watch Dad's bank roll vani sh at the same time. Thi s will take some g-ood salesmanship in many cases. Then they will have to sell to their mothers the idea that they will just have to ha ve new dresses or new suits for that moonlight dance that is going to he g iven in the near future.

Thi s kind of work will he the kind that most Sunsetters follow until they hear the school hell ring next fall. -E. VY.

THOSE CURTAINS

l\'1onday morning, May 4, pupils and teachers of our Sunset High School had the priv)lege of seeing, for the first time, the much talked of and much needed curtains in the auditorium. At last we have curtains representative of this gTeat institution of ]earning, and we should be proud of them.

VVe believe in g iving credit where credit is due. The Dads' Club and the P. T. A. did their share in providing for a beautiful curtain. The Public Speaking Department, under the directi~n of Miss Hedde, and the Music Department, directed by Mr. Otto K. Michels, should be applauded for their donations. The 4A Class also donated fifty ~ollars to the fund.

Sunset students appreciate this improvement in their audi-toriury1. -J. T. C.

PLEASANT MEMORIES

Gee, but it'll seem queer when you get out of a school that's almost been your home for four years (maybe more). It will be kinda lonesome ; you won't see any of your lower classmen friends, won't hear the voices of students and slamming of lockers between classes.

But there's one thing that will keep the blues off a person's mind, and that one thing is memories of high school days. Re-member that scared and uneasy feeling when you were a "fish"? How proud you Were when you passed in everything to become a sophomore? And how much prouder you were when you reached the junior year and had a few more pri vileges ? Then last of all, the pleasant times you had during your senior year?

Remember the clubs that you belonged to? And all kinds of club parties you attended? Dances, parties, banquets, socials.-all are brought to mind from a time that has gone-and as Father Time roll s relentless ly on. don 't forget that pleasant memories won't hurt a person a bit, even if he is looking back on hi s high school days. · -S. A. C.
