All Region Code

DVD discs are restricted with a region code that means that they can only be used in a specific part of the world. This DVD Player has region code 0 - ALL Regions, which means it can play a disc from anywhere in the world.

Contents

If your TV is not HD then pressing the HDMI button will NOT show any picture on your screen. If your LCD TV provides up to 1080 (HD ready) then the TV screen will NOT show a picture in 1080 mode. Press the HDMI button again to select a lower HDMI resolution such as 480/576P, 720P or 1080i.

Insert Batteries

1. Insert the batteries supplied into your remote control - ensure that the positive (+) and negative (-) symbols on the batteries match the symbols inside the remote control unit.

Remove all packaging and place your DVD player in a location where there is good ventilation and do not cover or place anything on top of your DVD player.

Getting Up and Running

1. Connect your DVD to your television using the video cable. If you are using the component cable, match the colours on the cable to the colours of the sockets on your television and DVD player.

2. Plug your DVD player into a suitable wall socket.

3. Switch on your television and press the POWER button on your DVD player. When switched on, the screen of the DVD player will read no disc.

Battery Disposal

Always dispose of batteries at a suitable recycling center.

3) Set Up

4. To find the correct input channel for your DVD player, use your television remote. Try pressing the AV button if there is one, otherwise consult the user guide for your television. With the DVD player on, the screen will look like this.

5. To watch your first DVD press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the remote control and put in a DVD. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again - your DVD will automatically start to play. You can also play CD’s through your new DVD player.

Which video cables should you use? The table below is designed to help you choose the best video option available for your TV. Please note that unless you are using a HDMI you will still have to use the red and white sound cables supplied, (audio L and R) to send sound to your TV.

Fair Analog Composite or RCA Video - This video cable (yellow) is attached to the left and right sound cables (white and red).

4) Everyday Use

Skip to a Different Section

Use the PREVIOUS and NEXT buttons to skip backwards and forwards through the chapters and titles on your disc. Each press of the button will skip forward one chapter.

Fast Forward/Rewind

There are four fast forward and rewind options available. To begin fast forwarding press the button, to begin rewinding press the button.

The available speeds are x2, x4, x8 and x20. To return to normal playback speed press the PLAY/PAUSE button. Resume Playback

If the playback has been stopped or interrupted for any reason, the RESUME button will start normal playback as before. Return to Menu

While watching a DVD, press RETURN to take you back to the main menu of the DVD. Put the DVD Player in Standby

To put the DVD player in standby mode, press the power button. Press again to wake up the DVD player. STANDBY puts the DVD player in low power mode but does not turn the power off completely.

Play a Disc

1. Ensure the power switch on the front of the DVD player is ON.

2. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the remote, or front of the

DVD player to open the disc tray.3. Insert the disc into the DVD player

with the label facing up. 4. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button

again to close the disc tray.

Most discs will play automatically when they are put into the DVD player. If a disc has stopped or did not start automatically, use the PLAY/PAUSE button on the remote control or press the PLAY button on the front of the DVD player to start playback.

Pause a DVD

To pause during playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE button.

Stop a DVD

Press the STOP button to interrupt playback. If you press the PLAY/PAUSE button it will resume from where the disc was stopped.

Press the STOP button again to clear the memory, the disc will now start from the title menu when you press the PLAY/PAUSE button.

4) Everyday Use

Display Screen Information

Press DISPLAY to show the on screen information display for your DVD including title, chapter and run time. Press again to reveal sound, subtitle and angle information. Continue pressing to turn off the on screen display.

Mute the Sound

Press the MUTE button to turn off the sound from your DVD player. Press MUTE again to turn the sound back on.

Accessing the Title Menu

The TITLE button accesses the title menu of your DVD where available.

Accessing the Main Menu

Press the MENU button to return to the main menu of the current DVD.

Showing Subtitles

If the subtitles are available on your DVD they can be switched on with the SUBTITLE button. Press the button repeatedly to cycle through the available subtitle options, or to turn the subtitles off again.

Playing Chapters at Random

Random will select chapters at random from your DVD disc and play them. To start random play, press the RANDOM button. To stop random play, press the button again.

Repeat Sections of your DVD

The REPEAT button allows you to repeat a section of your DVD. Press REPEAT to cycle through the options and choose whether to repeat current Chapter, Title, All or None.

Viewing the Title and Chapter

The GOTO button opens the Title and Chapter information display. There, you can choose which title or chapter to view using the number buttons on the remote control. Use the arrow keys to select the item to change, then press ENTER to jump to the selected area on the disc.

Changing the Viewing Angle

Some discs contain multiple viewing angles on some scenes. On discs where this feature is available, the ANGLE button can be used to switch between the different viewing options.

Playing Movies in MPEG

Your DVD can play in MPEG format.

1. Insert a disc into your DVD player. Playback should start automatically from the first movie on the disc.

2. You can scroll through the movies using the arrow buttons.

3. To view the available details on the movie you are playing press the DISPLAY button on your remote control.

5) Advanced Use

What is a JPEG?

Jpeg or jpeg format is a particular type of file format. When you take a picture with with your digital camera it will normally create a jpeg file. You can can tell which files are in JPEG format by looking at the file extension (the end of the file name) where it should say .jpeg or .jpg for example: photo1.jpg.

Playing MP3’s

To play MP3’s through your DVD player:

1. Insert a MP3 CD into your DVD player. Playback should start automatically from the first track on the disc.

2. To change tracks or start playback select the desired title you want using the arrow keys.

3. Press ENTER to begin playback.

Viewing Photos (jpeg format only)

To view photos through your DVD player:

1. Insert a photo CD into your DVD player.

2. Select the photo you want to view using the arrow keys.

3. Press ENTER to display it on screen.

4. To rotate the picture, use the arrow buttons.

System Setup

Using the system setup menu you can alter the general settings for your DVD player.

• Television system: Choose which output is required for your television:

- NTSC (North American standard) - PAL (European standard) - AUTO (DVD player selects the correct format) • Screen saver: Choose whether to

display the DVD screensaver. • Video: Choose between different

video outputs. Unless you have a specific reasopn to change this setting we recommend that you leave it as the default.

- Interlace YUV - TV-RGB - (output for standard televisions)

- P-SCAN - (for use with HD televisions)

- S-VIDEO - YPBRPR

6) Adjust System Settings

The setup menu allows you to adjust the general settings for your DVD player as well as the language, audio and video setings. Press SETUP to enter the setup menu, use the arrow buttons to select each option and the ENTER button to select it.

• HD output: Choose the correct High Definition output for your television. You should consult your television manufacturers user guide for information on which format is required.

Options are: 480P/576P, 720P, 1080I, and 1080P.

• TV type: To adjust the DVD output for your television screen, choose the correct aspect ratio for your screen.

- 4:3PS - (standard screen size)

- 4:3LB - (letterbox - displays a widescreen picture as a “strip” in the middle of the screen)

- 16:9 - (widescreen format)

• Password: You can set a password to stop children from adjusting the Rating level (see below). The default password is provided on a separate card with this manual. To set a new password:

1. Select the password option using the arrow keys and ENTER key.

2. Enter the default password and press the ENTER key. The

padlock icon will change and open.3. Select password again and enter

your new 4 digit password.4. Press ENTER to lock the Rating

option. The padlock icon will change to closed. Please keep a note of your new password as it cannot be reset.

• Rating: You can use the Rating setting to restrict which DVDs your DVD player will play. There are 8 levels, select the one you

• Audio Lang: The audio language setting changes which audio track the DVD player will select for you. Where available you can set the DVD player to choose one of four options: English, French, Spanish or German.

• Subtitle Lang: The Subtitle language option enables you to to turn subtitles on by default, as well as choosing which which language they will be displayed in. If the languages are available, the DVD player can be set to automatically select from: English, French, Spanish or German. Select OFF to turn off automatic subtitles.

• Menu Lang: Where menus within the DVD are available in alternative languages the DVD player can be set to automatically choose between: English, French, Spanish or German.

Audio Setup

• Audio out: To change your audio out settings choose between three options:

• Default: Selecting this option will restore all options to the factory settings. Please note: This will not reset the password to the factory default option.

Language Setup

Changing the language settings for your DVD player.

• OSD Language: The On Screen Display (OSD) language can be set to one of four options: English, French, Spanish or German.

- RAW - Select if the unit is connected to an amplifier with a Dolby Digital or DTS decoder via

the digital audio outputs.

- PCM - Select if the unit is connected to a 2-channel stereo amplifier.

• Key: You can change the key range in which audio signals are created. Select between: +4, +2, 0, -2, -4 and -6.

Video Setup

Using the video setup menu to alter the picture settings used by your DVD player.

• Brightness: To alter the brightness, select the menu item with the enter key and use the arrow buttons to select the setting you require between 0 and 12.

• Contrast: To alter the contrast, select the menu item with the enter key and use the arrow buttons to select the setting you require between 0 and 12.

• Hue: To alter the hue, select the menu item with the enter key and use the arrow buttons to select the setting you require between -6 and 6.

6) Adjust System Settings

• Saturation: To alter the colour saturation, select the menu item with the enter key and use the arrow buttons to select the setting you require between 0 and 12.

• Sharpness: To alter the sharpness of your picture, select the menu item with the enter key and use the arrow buttons to select the setting you require between 0 and 8.

Speaker Setup

Use speaker setup to alter how sound is delivered to your attached speakers.

• Downmix: Choose between: - LT/RT - Sets up two channels so that sound is pushed to either the left or right speaker.

- STEREO - Creates a stereo sound - VSS - creates a virtual surround sound system

- 5.1CH - is for use with a 5-speaker surround sound system.

Digital Setup

If you are using a HDMI connection to a HDMI enabled television then you can select the digital sound output that your DVD player will generate.

• OP mode: Choose between: - LINE OUT - Standard digital audio setting.

- RF REMOD - Use for older RF digital outputs

• Dynamic Range: Choose the extent of the dynamic range from your television: OFF, 2/8, 4/8, 6/8 and FULL.

• Dual Mono: This changes how the left and right signals of the audio output are used. The options are:

- STEREO - Generates a dummy stereo signal by combining the left and right channels.

- MONO L - Only broadcasts the Left signal.

- MONO R - Only broadcasts the Right signal. - MIXED MONO - With 2.0 channel DVDs the signal is mixed into a single output.

If you experience problems with your DVD player the following guide may help you resolve the problem.

Open the disc tray and check.

Open the disc tray and ensure the DVD disc is label side up and seated properly in the disc tray.

Try cleaning the disc.

Remove the disc and leave the unit switched on for an hour before trying again.

No image or poor image quality

Incorrect television settings

Check the cables have been connected correctly and are all pushed in firmly. Check that the cables are connected to the correct sockets on your television.

Using your television remote, check the other AV channels to see if you can get a better picture.

Check that NTSC is selected in the television system section of System Setup - See page 10.

Check the connections on your DVD player and television, amplifier or home theatre system. Check your television guide for further setup instructions.

Check the audio output settings are correct for the connections you have chosen.

Cleaning

• Use a soft cloth with a mild detergent to wipe the cabinet, panel and controls.

• Never use abrasive paper, polishing powder or solvents like alcohol or gasoline.

Handling Discs

• Keep discs clean by not touching the playing side of the disc.

• Do not attach paper or tape to discs.

• Keep discs away from direct sunlight.

• Always keep discs in their storage cases.

Cleaning Discs

• Before playback, wipe the disc out from the center with a clean cloth.

• Do not use any type of solvent, such as thinner, benzene, commercial cleaners or antistatic spray.

8) Maintenance

Placement

• Place the DVD player in an area with proper ventilation.

• Never put the DVD player in direct sunlight or near heat sources.

• Always place the DVD player in a horizontal position.

• Do not place any heavy objects on the DVD player.

• Avoid using in areas with a lot of dust.

• Laser beam caution. If your DVD player is operated while the outer casing is removed, invisible laser radiation could cause damage to the eye. Do not expose the lens. Do not look into the lens.

• To prevent electrical shock, never remove the outer cabinet . If the DVD player is damaged it must be repaired by a qualified service technician.

• Do not attempt to operate the DVD player with a damaged power cord or if it is not working correctly in any way. Never adjust or modify the DVD player yourself, always take it to an authorized service center.

• Position the power cord so that it does not cause a hazard and is not near any sharp surfaces.

• The main power cord of this DVD is not replaceable by the user. If the supply cord of the DVD player is damaged t must be replaced by a qualified service technician.

• Do not use an extension cord• If the DVD player is not being used for a long

period of time, remove the plug from the wall outlet.

10) Warnings

CAUTION-These servicing instructions are for use by qualified service personnel only. To reduce the risk of

electric shock, do not perform any servicing other than that contained in the operating instructions unless you

are qualified to do so.

• Do not insert objects oryou fingers in the slots or openings, as this mey damage the DVD player and cause an electrical shock.

• Do not place objects that could cause a fire hazard on top of the DVD player such as candles.

• When transporting the DVD player always use the original packaging.

• Do not place anything on top of the DVD player such as vases or potted plants.

• Do not use the DVD player outdoors.• Hold the plug when pulling the power

cord out of the wall outlet. Do not hold the cord when disconnecting.

11) Warranty

ORBYX ELECTRONICS WARRANTY

ORBYX Electronics warrants that this product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of purchase. Within this period, simply take the product and your proof of purchase to any ORBYX Electronics store or dealer and the product will be repaired without charge for parts and labour. ORBYX Electronics reserves the right to charge for transportation. Any product which has been subject to misuse or accidental damage is excluded from this warranty.This warranty is only applicable to a product purchased through ORBYX Electronics’ company owned stores and dealers and to a product that is presented for repair in a country where ORBYX Electronics offers the product for sale.
