Description The HC-68 Grout is a three-component, low-

viscosity, epoxy adhesive specifically designed for

the Helicoid Epoxy Sleeve application. The

physical properties allow its use in applications

requiring high load-bearing strength and excellent

adhesion under adverse application conditions, as

well as underwater. The product has a long working

life and a low exotherm reaction (minimal heat

generation during curing) that makes it suitable for

applications where a relatively large mass of

adhesive is employed. HC-68 Grout is specifically

designed for applications requiring material

thickness in excess of 25mm.

Features

Convenient, pre-packed mixing by weight.

Simple full-pack mixing, to ensure that

performance characteristics are achieved.

dry, damp and underwater (potable and

seawater)

Excellent durability – high compressive,

flexural and tensile strengths ensure a long

working life.

Chemical Resistance HC-68 Grout has excellent resistance to a wide

range of commonly encountered chemicals,

including acids, bases and hydrocarbon-based

fluids. The actual performance is a function of the

specific chemical, concentration, temperature and

exposure time. For information of specific chemicals

please contact the Merit Technologies Sdn Bhd

Technical Representative.

Instructions for Use Surface Preparation The surface to which the HC-68 is applied to must

be sound and free from all bond inhibiting

substances, free from oil, grease and/or any loosely

adherent material. Steel surfaces shall be cleaned

the “white metal” equivalent to SA 2.5 (Swedish

Standard).

Mixing HC-68 is a three-component designed system.

The entire contents of the Hardener shall be added

to the base and mixed for a period of 2 – 3 minutes

until a uniform color is achieved. It is recommended

prior to adding the base and hardener together to

thoroughly mix the contents in the container. Once

mixed, the filler shall be added progressively whilst

stirring, until a homogeneous mix is achieved. The

mix shall be used within the specified pot life. Part

mixing of the components is not recommended, as

is the adding of solvents to the mix.

Read all material safety data (MSDS) information

before handling the product. Wear safety glasses

and clean neoprene rubber gloves when handling.

Application Apply the materials in accordance with established

industry procedures and guidelines. Sufficient grout

must be available prior to starting and the time

taken to apply a batch must be regulated with the

time taken to prepare the next batch.

Hot Weather Working Whilst the performance of HC-68 at elevated

temperatures is assured, application under such

conditions can sometimes be difficult. It is therefore

suggested that, for temperatures above 35°C, the

following guideline are used:

Store unmixed materials in a cool

(preferably temperature controlled)

environment, avoiding direct exposure to

sunlight.

Keep mixing the material and ensure the

equipment remains cool, arranging shade

protection if required.

Ensure that there are sufficient operatives

available to complete the application within

the material’s pot life.

Cleaning Excess mixed-product is best removed from both

the work area and from tools before it hardens. Use

rags and solvents such as acetone or heavy duty

detergents to facilitate the cleaning. Cured product

is to be removed from tools by soaking them in an

epoxy stripper.

Handling and Toxicity

This bulletin does not accompany the product when

sold. For hazard warnings, safe handling and first

aid instructions, CAREFULLY OBSERVE THE

MATERIAL SAFETY AND DATA SHEETS AND

THE CONTAINER WARNING LABELS.

Warning! HC-68 contains resins which may cause

sensation by skin contact. It may cause allergic skin

reaction. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes.

Harmful if swallowed and avoid inhalation of the

vapours. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves

and eye/face protection. Barrier creams provide

additional skin protection.

Should accidental skin contact occur, remove

immediately with a resin removing cream, followed

by soap and water. Do not use solvents.

In case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately

with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice.

If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately-

do not induce vomiting.

Use only with adequate ventilation.
