HBCH – Summary

The Houston Business Coalition on Health is “The leading resource for Houston employers dedicated to providing health benefits at a sustainable cost while improving the quality and experience in their delivery.” HBCH is a non-profit 501C(3) organization that was formed in 2013 as a merger between the former Houston Wellness Association and Houston Business Group on Health.

HBCH is an employer-centric organization that allows for the sharing of evidence-based strategies and practices, while using its collective influence to assist employers effectively and efficiently deliver the spectrum of its health benefits investments. Employer-centric implies that the value of healthcare and benefits delivery is viewed from the focal lens of the employer. HBCH is able to discuss and impact employer health in a unique environment that brings together employers, health plans, hospital systems, physicians, benefits consultants and other health services providers. All healthcare is local, so much of HBCH’s effort is oriented towards local improvement. However, HBCH works with national organizations to assist employers achieve improvement in other cities where its employer members may have a presence.

VALUE OF HBCH MEMBERSHIP

• HBCH is an advocate for local employers and national employers with a local presence. All HBCH activities are focused on assisting employers to reduce the cost of health benefits and to improve the quality and experience in their delivery.

• HBCH is the only organization that brings together all participants of Houston’s health care market in a forum designed to facilitate collaboration and change, i.e., employers, health plans, hospital systems, physicians, consultants and brokers, and other health services providers.

• HBCH provides access to resources of national organizations dedicated to improving employer healthcare and its delivery. Examples include the National Business Coalition on Health and its regional member coalitions, and the Integrated Benefits Institute.

• HBCH provides opportunities to collaborate with local organizations whose mission and activities overlap with the interests of HBCH members. Examples include the International Society of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists, Houston Compensation & Benefits, Cities Changing Diabetes, and the Clinton Health Matters Initiative.

• HBCH provides a minimum of seven educational programs each year. Members can have an unlimited number of guest attendees at any HBCH event. As an employer-centric organization, program content will be delivered by employers with support and participation of their provider network. Continuing education credits for a variety of professional certifications are obtained when appropriate.

• HBCH conducts a minimum of six employer-only roundtable discussions. Each roundtable will provide opportunities for employers to dialogue with their peers on a topic of current concern.

• HBCH provides member-only access to healthcare and health benefits design, delivery benchmarking reports, and to relevant news about local and national healthcare and delivery that impact Houston’s employer community.

• HBCH members have access to the health benefits expertise and expansive professional network of its Executive Director and its Board of Directors.

2016 Board of Directors

KARL DALAL | BP Director for Health and Welfare Benefits | HBCH ChairKarl Dalal is BP’s Director for Health and Welfare Benefits. He leads a team responsible for all aspects of the design, delivery, and administration of BP’s health and welfare benefit programs offered to more than 75,000 employees/retirees in the U.S and represent a spend of over $500 million annually. Karl and his team manage the medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, wellness, life & disability insurance, voluntary benefit programs, as well as the onsite Health & Wellness Center. Karl works closely with the company’s senior management team to set the overall strategic direction for benefit programs. Karl joined BP in 2010 from Ford Motor Company, where he was the Director of Healthcare, Insurance and HR Programs. He has over 25 years of experience in numerous areas including healthcare, benefits, HR, finance, and accounting. Karl serves as the Chairperson of the Houston Business Coalition on Health (HBCH) - a local non-profit industry coalition. He also participates on Aetna’s Client Advisory Group, Express Scripts’ National Accounts Advisory Board, as well as on several committees of the National Business Group on Health (NBGH). Mr. Dalal received an MBA from Purdue University and a BA in Economics from Stony Brook University.

ANN HOLLINGSWORTH | Vice President of Compensation, Benefits and HRIS, Memorial Hermann | HBCH TreasurerAnn Hollingsworth is currently Treasurer of HBCH, and has served on the Board for four years. She has been involved in employee benefits in various industries over the last 30 years. She is currently Vice President of Compensation, Benefits and HRIS at Memorial Hermann, serving approximately 25,000 employees in the Greater Houston area. Ms. Hollingsworth holds Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Communications from Tulane University and a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Texas. She is a Certified Public Accountant, and also holds CEBS and CCP certifications. She has lived in the Houston area for the last 15 years.

VALERIE HULSE| Vice President of Global Compensation, Benefits and HRIS, KBR | HBCH SecretaryValarie Hulse is the Vice President of Global Compensation, Benefits and HRIS at KBR, Inc., a global technology, engineering, procurement and construction company serving the hydrocarbons and government services industries. Valerie serves on the Board for the Houston Business Coalition on Health (HBCH) and participates on its Executive Committee. She has worked in the areas of compensation and benefits for 11 years, currently in the Human Resources department and previously in Accounting. She is responsible for the design, delivery and administration of competitive compensation and benefits programs, and leads effective changes through implementations and enhancements of technology solutions that span HR globally. Valerie’s greatest strengths are her business acumen, drive, and leadership. She thrives on challenges, particularly those that solve problems for the company and her business partners. She is committed to delivering high performing benefits solutions that will help engage employees to be healthier and more productive. Valerie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and MBA from the University of Houston. She is a Certified Public Accountant and she holds Certified Executive Compensation Professional and Certified Compensation Professional designations.

BECKY BROSCHE | National Director, Employers Payer and Channel Access, Pfizer Inc. Becky Brosche is a National Director, Employers on the Payer and Channel Access Team at Pfizer Inc. She has extensive experience as part of Pfizer’s National Employer Group where she has actively partnered with employers, coalitions, and other healthcare market stakeholders for over 13 years to address issues related to health and productivity. Becky focuses on collaborating with large employers and their Health Management Teams to develop comprehensive population health initiatives to reduce the risk of poor health to the bottom line. Key areas of focus have been around smoking cessation, vaccination strategies, depression and cardiovascular health. She has also worked with various employers on their overall strategic approach to Value-Based Benefit Design. During her 29 years with Pfizer she has held multiple leadership positions in sales, and also managed care account management. Becky is a graduate of Auburn University, where she graduated with honors with a degree in Public Relations. She lettered all four years

there on the Women’s Varsity Tennis Team and is still an active fan of the game

CHRIS SKISAK, PhD. | Executive Director, Houston Business Coalition on HealthChris became Director in August of 2014. Prior to HBCH, he was President and Founder of Corporate Health Management Solutions, an organizational health and productivity management company providing consulting and software to employers and their health management partners to demonstrate the value of an integrated health management strategy. Dr. Skisak had previously worked 25 years with Houston Fortune 50 energy companies in a variety of health management positions. He is originally from Chicago and attended the University of Illinois. He received his B.S. from the University of Houston and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas School of Public Health.

FAIYAZ BHOJANI, MD, DrPH, FACP | Regional Health Manager, North & South America, Royal Dutch ShellFaiyaz Bhojani is Royal Dutch Shells Health leader for all businesses and projects in North & South America as well as Downstream Manufacturing business, globally. He supports over 40,000 staff across 20 countries. As such, he partners with senior leaders in business, HR, HSE and External relations. Faiyaz is passionate about Health and committed to People – at Shell, he is co-leading a global human performance and well-being initiative using an ecosystem approach, applying the principles of positive psychology, resilience, and behavioral economics with a primary goal of ‘thriving people.’ He is a Public Health physician Board certified in Internal Medicine, and Occupational & Environmental Health. He has over 20 years of leading corporate health functions; is involved in academia and holds teaching appointments as a Professor, at School of Public Health - University of Texas and Baylor College of Medicine. He regularly speaks at national and international meetings, and has published translational work in peer reviewed journals. In his spare time, he is involved in volunteer and humanitarian work, such as serving at a community health clinic for the disenfranchised as well as on the board of several Education and Health organizations.

SHERI GUTZMER | Senior Benefits Administrator, The Friedkin Companies, Inc.Sheri Gutzmer is the Sr. Benefits Administrator for The Friedkin Companies, Inc., which include Gulf States Toyota, GSFSGroup, US AutoLogistics, GS Marketing, Westside Lexus, and Northside Lexus. Sheri has been with Friedkin for four years. She has been a benefits professional for nearly 20 years with several employer and benefits consultant organizations. She stays current through her many on the job and volunteer initiatives. In addition to her involvement as a member of the HBCH Board, Sheri is involved in various committees with the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society. She enjoys healthy and mindful cooking, bicycling, and attends as many social events as possible. Sheri lives by the mantra “A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.”

LOU COOPER | Regional Sales Manager, Castlight Health Lou Cooper is the Regional Sales Manager for Castlight Health. His focus at Castlight is to help employers engage their employees to make better healthcare decisions and help employers communicate their benefits programs and measure their results. He has been active in HBCH since the beginning of 2015 and joined the board in 2016. He is also the Co-Chair of the membership committee for HBCH. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia Arkansas.

MARK CHRISTENSEN | Director of Human Resources, MetroNationalMark Christensen is a human resources professional with over 30 years of experience. He holds the SPHR certification. He has been with MetroNational for over 17 years and is currently the Director of Human Resources, overseeing all HR functions from employment to benefits. MetroNational is a privately-held real estate investment, development and management company headquartered in Houston. Each MetroNational property – spanning office, retail, healthcare, restaurant and hospitality, and land development – fully integrates MetroNational’s best-of-class services, providing the highest quality and enduring value. The company, which was founded in 1954, owns and manages more than 8.9 million square feet of commercial real estate properties primarily located in Greater Houston. MetroNational’s largest development is Memorial City located in West Houston. MetroNational has been recognized as one of Houston’s Healthiest Employers, Top Work Places, Best Places to Work, and most recently received Gold Achievement through the American Heart Association. Mark graduated from the University of Wyoming and resides in Houston with his wife of 37 years. He enjoys running as time permits and has been a regular participant in the Houston Half Marathon and Rodeo 10K Run for years. Mark originally served on the board of the Houston Wellness Association starting in 2012, then after the merger with the Houston Business Group on Health he has continued to serve on the newly named HBCH – Houston Business Coalition on Health.

BETHANY SPURRIER | Director of Benefits, Stewart & StevensonBethany Spurrier has 20+ years Human Resources (HR) experience with emphasis in Benefits, HRIS, and payroll managing solutions in plan design, compliance, automation and communication. She is committed to the success of an organization by aligning HR policies and programs with the organization’s goals and objectives. She has had many opportunities not always afforded HR professionals which include, but are not limited to: union campaigns, IRS and DOL audits, as well as multiple merger and divestiture activity. Bethany leads planning, organization and implementation of assigned special projects, and has been responsible for trouble-shooting, implementing change and cost saving efficiencies. Bethany is dedicated to her profession, is successful in her endeavors, and feels strongly that a good leader understands and supports working as a team.

JASON MAHLER | Senior Vice President, Health and Benefits, Aon HewittJason is a Senior Vice President with the Health and Benefits practice in The Woodlands office of Aon Hewitt. He has over 13 years of experience consulting in all areas of group health and welfare benefit programs, including strategy and design, wellbeing, consumer driven health care, plan financing, procurement, and delivery system transformation. He has assisted many organizations in the development of benefit strategies and in aligning benefit programs with those strategies. Jason serves on the Aon Health Deep Dive team and Large Market Steering Committee, where he focuses on driving innovation and developing the next generation of healthcare solutions. He is a frequent public speaker, and has presented at the National Business Group on Health, the DFW Business Group on Health and the Houston Business Coalition on Health. Jason is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Abilene Christian University. Jason also holds a General Lines License for Life, Accident, and Health in Texas.

SHERI LYTLE | Vice President, Human Resources & Risk Management, Silver Eagle Distributors Sheri Lytle has over 25 years of experience in the field of Human Resources. She holds a certification of Senior Professional in Human Resource Management (SPHR) from the Human Resource Certification Institute and a Senior Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resource Management. She has earned two Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s degree with concentrations in the field of business, human resources (personnel management), and industrial relations along with information technology. She has been nominated and appeared in the “Who’s Who in Human Resources” and “Who’s Who in Professionals” publications. Sheri is also a Certified Management Consultant (CMC). Sheri joined Silver Eagle Distributors, LP. in 2012, prior to that she served as Vice President of Human Resources for the Houston Zoo. She is actively involved in all facets of human resources, such as recruiting, hiring, safety, worker’s compensation, training, professional development, employee relations, benefits, risk management, and government compliance. Sheri

also serves as an adjunct faculty member for Olivet Nazarene University where she has taught human resources and business courses for over 15 years. She currently serves as a Human Resources Council member for the American Management Association and the Houston Business Coalition on Health.

JOCELYN F. WRIGHT | Division Manager, Strategic Benefits Planning & Design, City of HoustonMs. Jocelyn F. Wright has over 25 years of business experience in operational and compliance process management and review in the private, non-profit and governmental sectors, including over 18 years human resources management and consulting experience. She currently holds the position of Human Resources Division Manager for Strategic Benefits Planning and Design at the City of Houston (COH). Ms. Wright led the development of the strategic plan that changed a $15 million benefits deficit to a $43 million savings in three years. Prior to joining the COH, and offering independent human resources and business process improvement consultant services, Ms. Wright served as the Director of the Human Resources Consulting Services division at McConnell Jones Lanier & Murphy LLP (MJLM). She was the Director of Benefits, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) departments for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) prior to joining MJLM. Ms. Wright is also skilled in designing and implementing strategic process improvement, compensation and benefits plans, and establishing systems and internal controls, which result in operational efficiency and effectiveness within budgetary constraints. Her responsibilities have also included Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Drug and Alcohol Program regulatory compliance. She holds the following certifications: SPHR, IMPA-SCP and SHRM-SCP; and received a BBA in Accounting and JD from Texas Southern University.

JERRY TURNER | Senior Director of Benefits, Sysco CorporationJerry Turner is currently Senior Director of Benefits for Sysco Corporation. In his role, he is responsible for strategy, design and delivery of benefits for all US associates. Sysco has over 30,000 benefit eligible associates in the US in all 50 states. Jerry joined Sysco in February of 2015 from USAA in San Antonio, where he was the Assistant Vice President of Benefits. Prior to his work at USAA, Jerry spent almost 20 years in actuarial benefits consulting in both pension and health care practices. Jerry holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from University of Louisiana at Monroe.

TOM STEWART | Vice President of Sales & Client Management, Southeast Region, Houston & Southeast TX, Blue Cross Blue Shield of TexasTom Stewart joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) in 1995 as a regional sales executive in Beaumont where he worked to match the needs of employers with the resources at BCBSTX. After successfully building BCBSTX membership in Beaumont, Mr. Stewart’s territory was expanded to include the Houston area. His experience while at BCBSTX includes individual, small group, large group and national accounts and has grown membership by significant portions in these markets. Mr. Stewart was promoted to the role of Vice President in 2015. In his current role, Mr. Stewart is responsible for overseeing new group sales and account management activities in the 151-10,000 employee segments through his staff, consultants, and brokers. Working closely with these producers, his team develops comprehensive and consultative strategies that focus on the core aspects of each client’s unique needs. Prior to joining BCBSTX, Mr. Stewart was the brokerage manager and sales executive for New England Financial Services in Orlando, Florida, from 1991 to 1995. He was responsible for new business development and relationship management of broker distribution channels, as well as personal production in the area of financial planning for clients.
