Note from Mrs. Harrison

Dear Parents,

The latest Stewart Star was sent home on Friday. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on

November 17 and 19. If you need a specific time, please fill out the

back of the Stewart Start and send it in as soon as you can. Thank you.

Last week the students finished Unit 1 in their Reading

Treasures Book Today, we started Unit 2. The first theme in this Unit is Putting on a

Performance. The students will have the opportunity to

experience putting on a performance this week as they will be participating in Readers’

Theater.

The students are very excited to be performing in plays this week. Today your child was given a play script and assigned a part. Students should be bringing these scripts home everyday this week to practice. Students do not have to memorize their part, but should focus on reading their parts with expression and projecting their voices. Please help your child to remember to bring his/her script back to school everyday this week as we will be practicing every morning.

Note from Mrs. Harrison Continued: In reading last week, the students finished Unit 1 in their Treasures Book. Some stories the students read in this unit included Penguin Chick, Perfect Pet, First Day Jitters, and Dear Juno. Students took Accelerated Reading tests over all of these stories. They also took AR tests over some of the stories I have read aloud to them which included and Flat Stanley. I am sending home the results of these tests this week.

Thank you for continuing to encourage your child to read for Book It! Students are encouraged to bring their October reading calendars to school as soon as they achieve their goal of 400 minutes to receive a free pizza coupon from Pizza Hut.

Many students are sharing with me that the “Flat People” they sent out a few weeks ago are having fun visiting family and friends. If your child has not mailed their letter out yet, please help them to do so.

Students should be finishing learning all the Presidents this week. Be sure to ask your child to recite all the Presidents they can so far and possibly tell you a few things they learned about some of the Presidents. Students will be writing a letter to President Obama next week.

A Unit 2 spelling list will be sent home tomorrow along with the spelling test they took last week. I am proud of all the students and how well they do on their weekly tests.

This week the students will be finishing Unit ! in our Bridges Program. In this unit students reviewed different strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Students will be tested over the concepts they learned on Thursday when they take the Unit 1 Post-Assessment. Students should be bringing home their Unit 1 Pre-Assessment as well as all the homework they completed for this unit. They can use these assignments to help them prepare for this Thursday’s test. The score the students received on their pre-assessment test does not get averaged into their final grade for math. Rather that score was just to make me aware of areas to focus on during the Unit. The post-assessment is very similar to the pre-assessment but the variables have all been changed.
