Principal’s Report Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone enjoyed the school holidays with the family and are looking forward to another exciting term.

Mrs Moore also showcased new ideas around the latest robots and innovative teaching resources available. It was such a valuable day that will ultimately help our staff plan and deliver explicit lessons in the classroom.

Farewell to Mrs Eggins! Last term we said farewell to Mrs Eggins, and her daughter Logan. Mrs Eggins has been at Harrington Public School for quite a number of years and will be dearly missed by parents, students and staff. Mrs Eggins has taken on a new role this term at Port Macquarie Hastings Secondary College which is an exciting chapter in her teaching career. We wish her every success and greatly appreciate everything she has done for Harrington Public School.

What’s been happening at Harrington PS?

Club Harrington Donation A big thankyou to Club Harrington for their generous donation of $1000 to go towards minimising the cost of student excursion fees, particularly our much anticipated school camps.

NAIDOC Last term we went to Wingham for NAIDOC Day. We had fun doing all of the activities like face painting and making bracelets. We also ate some kangaroo and emu meatballs. We all had a lot of fun.

Norfolk Island Pines Did you know…? The pines are around 100 years old and are an iconic landmark for the school. They were planted around 1892 as part of the Arbour Day celebrations. Historically ships used the pines as masts for their ships. These pines have acted as historical markers for boats and during World War II they were used by the RAAF as training and navigational markers. “the four large Norfolk Pines were used as visual navigational aids by the Australian Air Force aircraft in the Second World War” anecdotal information from a former school principal and secretary.

Congratulations to all our Assembly Award Recipients

Please encourage your family to join us as this is the perfect opportunity for us all to touch base. Please encourage any of our new families along also as this is a time for them to meet everyone and really get a feeling of our school spirit.

PSSA Zone Athletics Carnival The Zone Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 2nd August at Tuncurry Oval (South Street Tuncurry). Please ensure you have indicated transport arrangements for your child.

CAPA Night – new date Please be advised that our CAPA night has been rescheduled to 18 September 2019 (Term 3, Week 9).

P & C News The uniform shop has beanies $2, scarves $2 and a pair of gloves for $1 that we will be selling through the uniform shop and canteen on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Canteen Update The Term 3 menu which was sent home to families at the end of last term contained a few errors. We have since updated the menu and the specials page – this was sent home with students earlier this week. Copies of the new menu are also at the canteen if you require one, please just make a note on your child’s lunch order bag.

Due to popular demand Timbertown pies ($4) and sausage rolls ($3.50) will be back on the menu this term.

We are taking advantage of the cooler weather to offer a hot chocolate with either a pancake or a crumpet for $1.50.

We have some exciting hot meal specials during this term. Keep an eye out on the school’s Facebook page for details.

On another note we still need parents to help in the canteen, even if it's only on a backup list as our regular fantastic staff may be sick, on holidays or helping their family. We are open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Even an hour or two at a time, weekly, fortnightly or monthly would be a really great help and greatly appreciated by your children as well.

Thanks from all the canteen staff
