Easter Hat Parade- Friday April 11

After recess on the last day of term all students will be constructing Easter

Hats in their classrooms. Students will be instructed to bring all the

materials they need for their hats to school that morning. Parents and

grandparents are invited to come in between 12 and 1:00pm to assist the

students with the construction of their hats. This will be followed by an

Easter Hat Parade at 1:15pm and the drawing of our Yr 5/6 fundraising

Easter raffle. Please note it would be great if all hats are constructed at

school and not at home the night before. Once again everyone is invited to

come in and assist the children with the hats between 12 and 1:00pm and

stay on for the parade and lunch.

Demountable Classroom:

The Demountable classroom was

removed last week and we have some

big plans for this area of the

playground. The students would like to

see mini golf or a swimming pool in

this corner of the playground however

a much more practical idea would be

an outdoor art and learning area.

(sorry kids). If there is anyone in the

parent community with ideas or experience in this area please see Mr Speirs.

This is something the teachers and students would like to get started on as

soon as possible.

School X Country: Our School Cross Country Carnival will be held

on Friday April 4 in and around the school grounds. More information will

follow in next week’s newsletter.

A huge Thank you to “Kitchen to Table” for their understanding and

support of the Lenard family of Chatsworth Island School.

Principal Position: I was informed last week that Mr Williams will

be remaining on leave next term. This means that I will be staying on as

relieving Principal during this period.

ICAS –International Competitions: Each year we offer

students from Years 3 to 6 who have a particular interest and/or ability in

certain subjects the opportunity to take part in these tests. In 2014 your child

can participate in any or all of the following: Science, English, Mathematics.

Golf—Junior 5 Hole Classic: Well done to Connor, Koby, Annika, Kali and AJ for

participating in the Iluka Northern Rivers District Golf Association Junior 5 Hole Classic. The Classic

was held at Iluka on Sunday and all children did their best and enjoyed the day.

Canteen: Karen and I were lucky enough to attend the Healthy Kids Expo and training Day 2014 in

Sydney last Tuesday! We were able to sit through lectures on how to bring more volunteers into the

canteen, maintain a healthy profit and any new law changes to canteens, we were able to watch cooking

demonstrations on 'how to green up your menu' and waste less food in the canteen. We also were able to

sample new products from different suppliers. The Healthy Kids Association seemed very impressed

with what we do in our canteen and we learnt that we are bounds ahead of a lot of canteens who still

mainly use packaged products!

Last Friday we celebrated Harmony Day and it was a huge success! Students were able to taste different

foods from around the world , such as pumpkin pie and fresh homemade lemonade from North America

and pork dumplings from China! Thank you to Cait, Karen and Danny for helping on this massive day!

Also a big thank you to Darren and Cait Waalkens who have made and donated a new blackboard

shaped as an apple to help support healthy eating in the canteen as well as tea towels etc that is well

needed in the canteen!

This Friday we will be serving Creamy Bacon Pasta or Pesto Pasta both served with Garlic Bread for

$4.50. Please remember to have orders in by tomorrow!

Thank you, Tennille.

P & C News: As many of you know, the Lenard family suffered the loss of their home and all of

their belongings last week in a terrible house fire. The P&C with assistance from some very generous

local businesses have put together ‘Back to School Packs’ for the children. We would like to thank the

following businesses for their generous donations: Sea Eagle Fashions, Canes Sport & Leisure,

Fandango, Birdscage, The Shoe Boutique, Maclean Newsagency, Toyworld, Country Target and

Priceline.

Please take a good look at the announcement of the Annual General Meeting attached to this weeks

newsletter. If you are interested in taking on a position with the school P&C Association please don’t

hesitate to have a chat with existing committee members, email us at [email protected] or

call 0432439815. We would love to see some fresh faces and always welcome new ideas.

This year the P&C will not be running a Mothers Day stall. Instead the children are busy making gifts

with Mrs Shannon. We are sure these personalised gifts will be wonderful but please keep in mind there

will be no extra gifts on sale.
