收穫所有的植物和蔬菜 The city of Ann Arbor road and sewer
project begins in court B from Pontiac Trail behind building 32
(Units 2351-2361) to the end of the garden. This area will be
dug up for the installation of sewer lines and will be barricaded
off. We ask parents to keep their children out of the area. The
trench will be approximately 20 feet deep. The trench and
installation project should only last a week. All projects are
weather dependent and this has been a wet season. The Pontiac Trail Project will end around November but with rain delays
we are predicting December. Updates online @ A2gov.org
HAPPY
BELATED
LABOR DAY
Flag Raising
Come celebrate with us on
Wednesday, September 17th @
5:45pm and take a few moments to remember
Freedom, Justice and Our own Veterans. A little
history; for more than 200 years, the American flag
has been the symbol of our nation's strength and
unity. It's been a source of pride and inspiration for
millions of citizens.
In May of 1776, Betsy Ross reported that she
sewed the first American flag. Today the flag
consists of thirteen horizontal stripes, seven red
alternating with 6 white. The stripes represent the
original 13 colonies, the stars represent the 50
states of the Union. The colors of the flag are
symbolic as well: Red symbolizes Hardiness and
Valor, White symbolizes Purity and Innocence and
Blue represents Vigilance, Perseverance and
Justice. America is not perfect and we salute the
members of Arrowwood who continue to fight for
justice and advocate for the people.

MORNING WALK 7:30am
MEET AT THE CENTER
Volunteers Welcome
The departure time allows students to arrive at the
beginning of the Breakfast program. Please turn in your
food program forms as they aid in Title 1 status.
The Food Gatherers of Ann Arbor hosts a closed monthly food distribution program at Arrowwood Hills Community Center. This service is strictly limited to legal residents of Arrowwood.
BACKPACK THANK YOU’s
When it rains it pours. The beginning of the month the
Center received a backpack donation from Arrowwood
Hill resident, Mrs. Blondella Moore with the
request that it be given to a needy child. The
following week the STEAM@Northside
Principal Joan Fitzgibbon appeared with a back-
pack donation of over thirty backpacks and offers of
future support. The following weekend Tim Collier, Pres-
ident of the National Pan-Hellenic Council-Ann Arbor
Chapter made a donation of twenty-four backpacks and
future support. When it rains it pours.
Dear Arrowwood Neighbors,
The Center has begun its 2014-2015 program year, which
will prove to be both exciting and challenging. There is great
news down the road, but there are important issues today
that need your input and support.
As you are aware Northside Elementary is now
STEAM@Northside. The program, with underwriting from
The Toyota Corporation, is heralded as a new and
innovative component in the successes of the Ann Arbor
Public Schools. As the school is our neighborhood school it
can have a profound impact on the educational
opportunities available to our children. This being said the
concerns of parents regarding the safety of children walking
to school should have our consideration. The schedule for
the school has changed with both an earlier arrival time
(8:05am) and departure time (2:45pm). This is not a safe
situation for children given seasonal changes, light changes,
and heavy traffic flow on Barton Drive and Pontiac Trail.
In response to the problem three proposals are being exam-
ined. The first is the placement of a crossing guard at the
Barton Dr. Pontiac Trail intersection. The second is the
establishment of a car pooling plan for morning and after
pickup this would last until the third plan can be implement-
ed. The third is the creation of a seasonal bus which would
be available from the end of the Thanksgiving Break to the
beginning of Spring Break. We need a crossing guard and
we need your help. Contact Mayor Hieftje (734/794-6161)
and council members Sumi Kailasapathy (734/769-5698)
and Sabra Briere (734/995-3518). We need to start a car
pool in the interim. Drop by the Center and sign up. We
need seasonal transportation. Contact the School Board
(734/994-2232), Superintendent Dr. Jeanice Swift
(734/994-2230) and STEAM@Northside principal Joan
Fitzgibbon (734/994-1958). None of these expressed
concerns are new and they should have been addressed
long ago by Arrowwood and the school district.

Michigan's upcoming winter may not be
saved by El Nino; Polar vortex could
dominate again…
El Nino has been developing, but new data shows
it may not become strong enough to influence our
upcoming winter here in Michigan. And if El Nino
can't shove the jet stream northward, the polar
vortex could again be a dominant feature in our
winter weather this year.
It is expected to be warm enough in the next
month to be officially called an El Nino.
When El Nino becomes strong, with temperatures
in the Pacific averaging more than three degrees
Fahrenheit above normal, Michigan has about a
70 percent chance of a warmer and drier than
normal winter.
