On Thursday, December 17, a meeting for St. Therese Parish was conducted by the Realigning Resources for Mission representatives from the Diocese of Lansing. The meeting took place via “Zoom,” an internet application. It turned out to be an important meeting. Parishes in the future will be sharing resources, especially priests and lay ministers. Due to the COVID situation, the meeting could not take place in person, and for that, I am sorry. I realize that many of our parishioners do not have access to the internet or might not understand an online program like Zoom. If you missed the meeting and can get to our website, sttherese.org, you will be able to listen to the hour and half long presentation and discussion about Realigning Resources for Mission. It will be well worth your time. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who participated in the Advent Giving Tree. It is quite an undertaking, but it was wonderful to witness so many people in need served by our parish community. Thank you! I am very grateful to Pat Droste and the Arts and Environment Committee for their hard work in making our church look beautiful for the Christmas Season. Also, thank you to everyone who donated a poinsettia in memory of a loved one. Your intentions will be remembered at Masses during the Christmas Season. Thank you to Dean Jong, our cantors and our instrumentalists for leading the music for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. As always, it was beautiful, and it added so much joy to our celebration of our Savior’s Nativity. I am grateful, too, for the assistance of all of our liturgical ministers – Mass Coordinators, Altar Servers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Greeters and Ushers. We can’t do it without you! Bishop Boyea has reiterated the importance of wearing masks at Mass. Believe it or not, this is a very contentious issue between pastors and congregants at some of our diocesan parishes. I am very thankful for everyone’s cooperation regarding masks and social distancing at St. Therese Parish. The celebration of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God is just around the corner. Masses will take place on Thursday, December 31, at 6PM and Friday, January 1, at 8:30AM. The feast this year is not a Holy Day of Obligation. However, attending this liturgy is a great way to begin the New Year. So many of our senior parishioners have told me that they could have never imagined anything like the COVID outbreak taking place during their lifetimes. The only remotely comparable thing for them was living during World War II. It does seem like hope is on the horizon, though. The development of two COVID vaccines is a real blessing from God. My brother, who has worked as a COVID physician at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, tells me that, all things remaining constant, the pandemic situation should significantly subside around May or June. In particular, we thank doctors, nurses and all essential workers who have served the community over this very difficult past year. Their efforts have been nothing less than heroic. Blessings in this 2021 New Year! Fr. John Fain
The year end is rapidly approaching, and all financial contributions to St. Therese must be submitted to the parish office by Dec 31st to be included on your 2020 contribution statement. Thank you to each and every one of you for your support of St. Therese through your time, talents, and treasure in 2020! It has been quite a year, totally blessed by you!! Thank you!
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; he went out, not knowing where he was to go. Hebrews 11:8

There is an old Mexican legend about how Poinsettias and Christmas come together, it goes like this:
There was once a poor Mexican girl called Pepita who had no present to give the baby Jesus at the Christmas
Eve Services. As Pepita walked to the chapel, sadly, her cousin Pedro tried to cheer her up. 'Pepita', he said
"I'm sure that even the smallest gift, given by someone who loves him will make Jesus Happy."
Pepita didn't know what she could give, so she picked a small handful of weeds from the roadside and made
them into a small bouquet. She felt embarrassed because she could only give this small present to Jesus. As she
walked through the chapel to the altar, she remembered what Pedro had said. She began to feel better, knelt
down and put the bouquet at the bottom of the nativity scene. Suddenly, the bouquet of weeds burst into bright
red flowers, and everyone who saw them were sure they had seen a miracle. From that day on, the bright red
flowers were known as the 'Flores de Noche Buena', or 'Flowers of the Holy Night'.
The shape of the poinsettia flower and leaves are sometimes thought as a symbol of the Star of Bethlehem which led the Wise Men to Jesus. The red colored leaves symbolize the blood of
Christ. The white leaves represent his purity.

Our Adult Faith Formation
December 27, 2020
Our Parish Social Ministry Take a peek @ sttherese.org Website
sttherese.org is keeping up with the times, adding and subtracting content every week.
This week, on our front page, see and hear the recording of the Realign Resources for Mission meeting held on 12/17/2020. Then respond to the survey, on-line or on paper.
Still there, in “Us @ A Glance,” “Advent Resources,” “A New York Christmas to Remember!” This is an hour of Christmas music, scripture and puppetry originally aired on CBS TV 6 yrs. ago.
The BabyBottle Boomerang is on the 2021 horizon. Please start hoarding your coins.
There is so much to learn
from each other!
Don’t pass up the opportunity!
Let us enter into “Be the Bridge” conversations with people
of color in the north Lansing neighborhood. We will furnish the book free of charge.) We’ll start when we have at least 10 people – likely in January. Please respond to dave at
(517) 487-0478, (517) 331-5765 or [email protected].
Small Discipleship Groups…
Beginning Jan. 5, on the Tuesday mornings & evenings thru Feb. 16
We will begin a new series, “Conversion.” Bishop Robert Barron illuminates six biblical stories of conversion (Bartemaeus, Rich Young Man, Matthew, Jonah, Woman at the Well, Journey of the Magi), demonstrating how six ordinary people, just like us, were met by Jesus and called to a
better life through Him.
Resuming Jan. 6., the Wednesdays of 2021 (except Lent),
We will resume our series “The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation” You can still jump in on a guided journey through salvation history
showing how fourteen of the Bible’s narrative books tell the biblical story from beginning to end and gives
you the keys to understanding the amazing story woven through Scripture.
If at all possible, we will be on-site and still offer Zoom for each series.
Contact Dave (331-5765) if you want to participate and Study Guide.
Seekers Welcome
This weekend, we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. In the first reading from Genesis, we read about Abram and Sarai, an
aging, childless couple living in the context of societies and religions that thought nothing of sacrificing their children to any one
of their many gods. In the Gospel of Luke, Mary and Joseph live in the context of Roman occupation and a cultural king Herod both ruling for their own gain. Both families face decisions; stay faithful
to the one God of love and put their futures at risk or remain tethered to existing social and religious norms that put their souls at risk.
How has your trust in Jesus brought division into your heart or life? How is that working out?
Where did/do you find the faith to go on, even when life seemed impossible?
We are still in the ministry of guiding adults
into a relationship with Jesus Christ through his Church.
Please call Dave @ 487-0478 or 331-5765 and let’s have the conversation

Regional Catholic Men’s Monthly Speaker Nights
Men-on-Fire, a regional group of Catholic Men from the Diocese of Lansing, gather on the THIRD THURSDAY of every month for spiritual and practical strengthening in the battle to be faithful disciples of Christ. We begin with pray-er at 5:45pm (confession is usually available), followed by Mass at 6:15pm, and then a dynamic and inspirational Speaker Presentation at 7:00pm on a timely subject relevant to Catholic manhood, given by some of the most exciting and influential speakers in the Church today. Just some of the 2021 speakers include Al Kresta, Dr. Mary Hea-ly, Dr. Ray Guarendi, Fr. Athanasius Fornwalt, Peter Her-beck, and Bishop Earl Boyea. We conclude with refresh-ments from the Wooden Spoon Restaurant and fellowship at 8:00pm. Two events each year are open to women. Host-ed by Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Brighton. Free-will offering. All Men aged 13+ invited. For further infor-mation or to be included on our email list, contact Rory Clark: [email protected].
