Luminous Flux

Luminous flux is the measure of the perceived power

of light. It differs from radiant flux, the measure of the

total power of light emitted, in that luminous flux is

adjusted to reflect the varying sensitivity of the human

eye to different wavelengths of light.

Illuminance

Illuminance is the total luminous flux incident on a

surface, per unit area. It is a measure of how much the

incident light illuminates the surface, wavelength-weighted

by the luminosity function to correlate with human

brightness perception.

Luminance

Luminance is a photometric measure of the luminous

intensity per unit area of light travelling in a given

direction. It describes the amount of light that passes

through or is emitted from a particular area and falls

within a given solid angle. The SI unit for luminance is

candela per square meter(cd/ ). A non-SI term for the㎡

same unit is the 'nit'. The CGS unit of luminance is the

stilb, which is equal to one candela per square centimeter

or 10 kcd/㎡.

Color Rendering Index (CRI)

The color rendering index (CRI) is a quantitative measure

of the ability of a light source to reproduce the colors of

various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or

natural light source.

Luminous Efficacy (lm/W)

Luminous efficacy is a figure of merit for light sources.

It is the ratio of luminous flux (in lumens) to power

(usually measured in watts). As most commonly

used, it is the ratio of luminous flux emitted from

a LED light sources to the electric power consumed

by the source, and thus describes how well the source

provides visible light from a given amount of electricity.

This is also referred to as luminous efficacy of a source.

In SI, luminous efficacy has units of lumens per watt

(lm/W).

Luminous Intensity

Luminance is a photometric measure of the luminous

intensity per unit area of light travelling in a given

direction. It describes the amount of light that passes

through or is emitted from a particular area, and falls

within a given solid angle. The SI unit for luminance is

candela per square meter cd/㎡.

Color Temperature

The color temperature of a light source is the temperature

of an ideal black body radiator that radiates light of

comparable hue to that of the light source. Color

temperature is conventionally stated in the unit of absolute

temperature, the Kelvin, having the unit symbol K Color

temperatures over 5,000K are called cool colors (cool white)

while lower color temperatures (2,700K-3,000K) are called

warm colors (yellowish white through red).
