“Our Father, Who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come. Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors!
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For Yours is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever. Amen!” (Matthew 6: 9-13)
1) “OUR FATHER”-
Relationship and Fellowship
• Any time Jesus prayed, He addressed the
Father, first (except on the cross).
• There on the cross, Jesus prayed: „My God,
my God…!“ Why? Because sin will not allow
us to call Him „Father“.
„If I had cherished sin in my heart,
the Lord would not
have listened.“
(Psalm 66:18)
„We know that God does not listen to sinners.
He listens to the godly man who does His will“.
(John 9:31)
It is impossible to pray an effective prayer
without a relationship with God!
2) “WHO IS IN HEAVEN“-
A new Identity in Christ
• Heaven speaks of God’s authority and of
our citizenship.
• Heaven is the source of our blessings.
• We can‘t remember God whole- heartly
until we remember
that we belong to Him!
God‘s authority:
“I tell you the truth, a time is coming and
has now come when the dead will hear
the voice of the Son of God and those
who hear, will live. For as the Father has
life in Himself, so He has granted the Son
to have life in Himself. And He has given
Him authority to judge, because He is the
Son of Man.“ (John 5: 25-27)
Citizenship is in Heaven:
“But our citizenship is in heaven.
And we eagerly await a Savior from there,
the Lord Jesus Christ, Who,
by the power that enables Him to bring
everything under his control,
will transform our lowly bodies so that
they will be like His glorious body.“(Philippians 3: 20-21)
Heaven as the Source of our Blessings:
“Every good and perfect gift
is from above, coming down
from the Father of the Heavenly lights,
Who does not change,
like shifting shadows.
He chose to give us birth
through the word of truth,
that we might be a kind of first fruits
of all He created.“(James 1: 17-18)
3) “HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME”-
Worship
Jesus declared: “Believe me, woman,a time is coming when you will worship the Fatherneither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know;we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.Yet a time is coming and has now come, when the true worshipers will worshipthe Father in Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.God is Spirit, and His worshipers mustworship in Spirit and in truth.” (John 4: 21-24)
God´s character is revealed through
His names
• Jethro means “excellent” (Exodus 18: 1-27)
• Jesse means “Jehovah exists” (Isaiah 11)
• Jeremiah means “Jehovah establishs”
(Jeremiah 31:3; 32: 26.27)
• Barnabas means “the son of exhortation” (Acts 4:36)
• Barabbas means “the son of Abba” (Matthew 27:26)
• Aaron means “bright” (Leviticus 8:2)
• John means “Jehovah has been gracious” (Luke 1: 59-63)
4) “YOUR KINGDOM COME.
YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH,
AS IT IS IN HEAVEN”- Submission
• God‘s needs must be met before mine.
• I voluntarily submit to God.
• I make God my “G.P.S.”
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make your paths straight
(or: will direct your paths).“(Proverbs 3: 3-5)
Prayer:
“Lord, use me to bring others to You,
for now I know You. I acknowledge you.
Help me to live the life of heaven
here on earth!
Submission requires us
to do three things:
Trust, permit, and yield.
5) “YOUR WILL BE DONE”-
Consecration
• Secret will
• Revealed will
• Permissive will
„None of the rulers of
this age understood it,
for if they had,
they would not have
crucified the Lord of glory.
However, as it is written:
‘No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for
those who love Him‘-
but God has revealed it
to us by His Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things,
even the deep things of God.
(1st Corinthians 2: 8-10)
6) “GIVE US EACH DAY
OUR DAILY BREAD“- Provision
When Jesus uses the word "bread", He is referring to all we
need for our earthly existence. Our prayers should show
our understanding and belief that God is our
Master Provider, and that He cares about even
our smallest daily needs.
We need to be conscious
of how utterly dependent
we are on our Father
to provide for our daily
physical, emotional,
mental, and spiritual
needs.
7) “FORGIVE US OUR SINS FOR WE ALSO
FORGIVE EVERYONE WHO SINS AGAINST US!”
-Receiving forgiveness and passing it on
• Our prayers should show that we are aware of our
sinfulness.
• The same grace and mercy that God extends to us,
must also be extended
to those who have
offended us.
Didn’t Jesus, while He
was dying on the cross,
forgive the ones who had
put Him there?
He said: “Father, forgive them, for they do not knowwhat they are doing!“ (Luke 23:34)
Later, the Apostle Paul encouraged us to“be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ,God forgave us.“(Ephesians 4:32)
8) “AND LEAD US NOT INTO
TEMPTATION“- Guidance
This speaks of a cry for
guidance and direction.
Prayer: “Direct our way
towards righteousness.
Rescue us from where
we have been and lead
us towards holiness and
righteousness! Be our
Shepherd and lead us in
Your paths, for
righteousness’ sake!
9) “FOR YOURS IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER,
AND THE GLORY FOREVER AND FOREVER!“-
God‘s Glory
a) “FOR YOURS IS THE KINGDOM…”
The kingdom of God. God is King. He is Lord.
He rules all things.
Because of Jesus Christ we are in God’s kingdom.
“We pleaded with you, encouraged you, and urged you to
live your lives in a way that God would consider worthy.
For He called you to share in His kingdom and glory.
(1st Thessalonians 2:12)
b) “…AND THE POWER…“
• Our King is also powerful.
Which king is not powerful?
Every king is powerful.
But our King is the King of Kings
and the Lord of Lords!
• How powerful is our King?
Nothing is impossible for Him-
He can do anything. He even delivers us
from death- that’s how powerful!
c) “…AND THE GLORY…“
• Because it’s His kingdom.
• Because He has all power.
• He deserves all the glory.
d) “…FOREVER AND FOREVER!“
• How long does God’s Kingdom last?-
Forever!
• How long is God King?-
Forever!
• For how long does God have the power?-
Forever!
• And for how long does God get the glory?-
Forever!
(2nd Chronicles 26: 3-5)
“Uzziah was sixteen years old, when he became king,
and he reigned in Jerusalem for fifty-two years.
His mother’s name was Jecoliah, she was from Jerusalem.
He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord,
just as his father Amaziah had done.
He sought God during the days of Zechariah,
who instructed him in the fear of God.
As long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success.”
