    Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute /GSPI/ Though DIUS and PICQA are separate and

    independent projects but they areinterconnected and preconditioned with eachother in their content, main purposes andtendencies.

    One of the important phases in thedevelopment and establishment process of education quality assurance system is theorganization and realization of self-assessmentactivities in the University.

    The establishment of self-assessment system isalso signified that during reform realization

    process the implemented activities and gainedresults should be subjected to monitoring andevaluation, current state and present recoursesshould be evaluated.

    Preconditioned with this we prepared apresentation and separate slides arecommon for both projects. In particular:

    1. Who are we? Gyumri State PedagogicalInstitute (GSPI) was founded in 1934.

    Gyumri is the center and largest city of the Shirak Region in northwest Armenia .Shirak is one of 10 regions of theRepublic of Armenia with a population of 360.000 (almost 10% of the totalpopulation of Armenia). The region is

    situated in the northwest of Armenia andboarders on Georgia in the North andTurkey in the West.

    Modern Gyumri is a mixture of old andnew. Alongside with the streets andhouses of 19th century in the center of the town, the part that is in the Gyumrireserve now, there are also modernbuildings, banks, restaurants, cafes and

    supermarkets. Gyumri is also a city of arts and

    handicrafts. Today there are more than 10 state and

    private universities or universitybrunches in Gyumri.

    GSPI has 6 faculties and Department of correspondence learning. Up to 6.000students study in GSPI, including students of correspondence course.Besides pedagogical proficiencies there arealso the so called university proficienciessuch as Social Work, IT, Journalism,Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Management,Ecology, Translation studies.GSPI has 30 Bachelor and 10 Masterprograms.GSPIs PhD Department has 4 specialities:Philology, History, Physics-Mathematics andPedagogical specialties.

    GSPI international collaboration:

    1997-99, 2001-2003 participation in the Tempusprojects. Social Work Educational Center wasfounded in GSPI.

    2003-2006 international collaboration withFlorida Agrarian Mechanical University. In 2005 astudent TV-studio was established in GSPI.

    2007- present participation in Erasmus-MundusExternal Cooperation Window program. Morethan 20 lecturers and students continued theiracademic, research works and studies in Europeanpartner Universities with 1-20 months duration.

    2. What do we expect from the project -One of the strategic development priorities

    of GSPI is to enlarge internationalcollaboration frames and multiple theworks directions.

    These 2 projects are the spheres, whereGSPI has assistance and collaborationneed of Armenian and EuropeanUniversities. Our expectations fromthe projects are conditioned with thefollowing:To change perceptions and ideasabout quality assurance processamong GSPI administrative andacademic staff, students throughawareness rising activities.

    To promote students involvement in theUniversity self-assessment processtrough trainings and academic changes.

    Assistance in development andestablishment works of internal qualityassurance system.
