School Resource Officer News Message from the Captain Dear Buccaneers, We have had a terrific start to the new school year! As we enter the second half of the first quarter, it is a great time for students to reflect on their performance so far. Please refer to the school and student expectations pamphlet that was distributed through English classes prior to the student orientation meetings. We have received the first half of our school grade, and we are 1 point from a B. The improvements of the current Sophomores and Juniors are commendable and appreciated. As we continue toward the path of an "A" school by 2012, please remember it will take each and every one of us doing our best each day to accomplish this goal. Student success depends on the support of our families, community partners, and dedicated faculty and staff. We encourage our student body to engage in the many opportunities that Gulf High has to offer and to participate in the full range of extra and co‐curricular activities available to them. Our school offers you and your family many events and activities throughout the school year that will make the educational experience exciting and meaningful. I encourage you to visit our website daily to view our calendar for up to‐date events and information. You can also e‐ mail our staff and faculty through the website at: ghs.pasco.k12.fl.us Buccaneer Pride is Alive! It is with Crime stoppers Tampa Bay, at: http://www.crimestopperstb.com. A link to the website is also on the GHS homepage. Students who report suspected crimes can receive a cash reward if the tip leads to an arrest. All tips are anonymous. Posters and information will soon be displayed throughout the school. Also, all students who drive to school need to purchase a parking pass. If they have not taken the Safe Behind the Wheel class, they can still purchase a pass but will be required to take the next class given. See Mrs. Voorhees in room 110 to purchase the parking pass. REMINDER: EMERGENCY CLINIC CARDS Please make sure your child has a completed emergency card on file in the clinic with correct phone numbers. These should include the parent/guardian phone numbers in addition to a family member or neighbor to contact. An emergency is always unexpected. Lack of phone numbers or a parent signature could result in minutes lost in receiving care or notifying you of your child’s condition. Written by Lynn Goettel, R.N., School Nurse GULF HIGH GAZETTE

Notice to Building Occupants and ParentsNotification of Inspection for Asbestos Containing Materials in Public

Schools

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule, 40 CFR Part 763, Asbestos Containing Material in schools, commonly referred to as AHERA. This rule requires all Local Education Agencies (LEA’s) to identify asbestos containing materials (ACM) in their school buildings and to take appropriate actions to control the release of asbestos fibers. All inspections for Gulf High School have been completed and a Management Plan describing the results of the inspection and the action plan to control any asbestos found during the inspection, where applicable, has been submitted to the Governor for approval.A copy of this plan is located in the administrative office of this school and at the District School Board of Pasco County Maintenance/Facility Operations Department and is available for review upon request.
