Now my 8…
The end in mind: MAY 11
Set your alarm (and maybe stop at QT)
• First block is REALLY early…
• Get here on time and be awake
• Feel free to bring your caffeine
Organize
• Keep ALL notes together. (suggest a spiral)
• You must keep a lab notebook. ( this is AP stuff…not just for me)
• Check the calendar and blog to stay current.
Read, Re-Read and take Notes
• Once is NOT enough.• The book AND your
notes.• Summarize.• Learn to take good notes.• Read and Review in
small chunks.• Get a highlighter and/or
colored pens.• You might want to buy
your own copy.
Labs are VERY important
• Safety in the lab is of utmost importance.
• Read BEFORE we do the lab.
• Make sure you understand what happened or what SHOULD have happened.
• There will be a lab exam each six weeks.
Use your Resources
• They pay me for this.• Tutorials/Review
Sessions….name the time.
• Study in small groups.• Study books, review
questions, ONLINE, end of the chapter, reading guides, etc.
• AP Central• Trade notes with a friend.• …not on tests of course
Expect your Tests to be Really Really Hard
• Sorry….• Build you towards the
AP test ( will use more and more AP type questions as semester goes on).
• Free Response• Yes, I will curve…..• Corrections to a 70.
The rest are just details
• Ok, don’t have time for all the “other stuff”.
• Not many piddly daily grades…although I do heart quizzes.
• Make up work, school policy, cell phones, academic dishonesty, restroom, supplies, late work, etc.
Don’t let me scare you off…
…It will be fun
• …and I’ll try not to kill your GPA.
BUT you will be expected to work! How much time are we talking about? 3- 4 hours a week.
What about my grade:
-2 tests (tests 50%, labs 30%, daily 20%)
-curve* ( drop the high and low score and add points so that the average is a ~75)
-one LAB test grade a six weeks ( this is intended to help your average and make sure you understand the labs!)
