Biography on Georgia Wier
Georgia Wier is a folklorist and cultural specialist. In 1975 she received her Bachelors of Arts in
Fine Arts from the University of Oregon and in 1992 she received her Masters of Arts in
Folklore from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has worked with museums,
state arts councils, regional historical and arts organizations, community centers, public schools,
and universities as a folklorist helping with projects centered on the culture of the area. Some of
the projects included developing community oral history projects, producing festivals and
programs, conducting documentary fieldwork, archival research, and writing and managing
grants. She has experience working in Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, Nebraska, South Carolina,
and Mississippi. As of 2019 she owns her own business.
Administrative History of the Colorado Council of the Arts
The Colorado Council of the Arts was an agency in the Colorado state government that was
responsible for the promotion of arts in the state. In July 2010, the Colorado Council of the Arts
merged with Art in Public Places to create the new department Creative Industries Division.
They are a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade.

Their goal is to create and maintain a creative economy in Colorado with activities and strategies
that will result in the educational advancement, economic growth and improved quality of life in
Colorado.
Scope and Content
Consists of audio recordings and oral histories conducted by Georgia Wier during her time as a
Folklorist with the Colorado Council of the Arts. Other materials include photographs, slides,
and negatives from events Georgia attended; program materials; reports related to her work as a
folklorist; contracts; award panel books from when Georgia served on panels; correspondence,
surveys, and assessments; and materials Georgia collected during her work in the filed including
events she attended and research she conducted.
