The Elegant Elf Marketplace at the Hitson ActivityCenter in Sandy Springs on Nov. 11-12 from 9am-7pmwill feature two full days of shopping in a festive “winterwonderland” atmosphere; artisans and vendors fromaround the world will sell their products at this excitingholiday gift market with everything from gifts to gift wrapping under one roof. Boxed gourmet lunches will beavailable for purchase in the ‘Polar Express Cafe.’ Holidaydecorating demonstrations will take place both days.
Breakfast with the Elves on Saturday morning, Nov.12, from 8:30-10am will offer crafts, entertainment, andphoto opportunities with some of the North Pole’s most

A Veterans Day Celebration will be held Nov. 11 at the Morgan Falls Overlook Park at 10am.The 116th Army Band from the Georgia Army National Guard will perform, and the keynotespeaker will be Lt. Gen. Ron Helmly, former Chief of Army Reserve. The program will honor several recently Wounded Warriors from Iraq and Afghanistan. Classmates from the West PointClasses of 1947-48 will be in attendance. Veteran service organization booths will be set up, andlunch will be sold.

Civil War Christmas in Gwinnett CountyIt’s a living history adventure! Discover what Christmas was like
during the Civil War era for soldiers and their families. Interact withCivil War re-enactors, enjoy time period dance demonstrations, andmake old fashioned Christmas crafts. Join the fun on Saturday,December 3, from 11am-3pm in Duluth. Admission will be $5 perperson, and a pre-registration discount of $4 per person will be available by November 19th (children 3 and under will be free).
McDaniel Farm Park is a little slice of heaven in one of thebusiest areas of Gwinnett County. The 125 acre park includes 10acres of the 1930s heritage farm which showcases reconstructionsof typical farm buildings – a well, smokehouse, carriage house,blacksmith shop, and a tenant house.
The heritage farm is open Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10am-4pmand hosts a variety of special events (Pioneer Day, Touch A Tractor,Civil War Holiday); summer camps (Civil War, Military Themed Camp); daycare programs (Planta Seed, Listening to History); home school programs (Farmtastic Fridays); and K-12 field studyprograms. Museum in Duluth on Saturday, November 19, at 1pm.There will be pizza, music, and children’s activities, andphotos with Santa from 11am-2pm.
Enjoy breakfast or lunch with Santa on Nov. 26, Dec.3, 10, 17 and watch a unique showing of The PolarExpress in a railroad car while the staff entertains in syncwith the movie. Breakfast will start at 9am and will includecraft time, breakfast, photos with Santa, a hayride, and atrain ride. Lunch will start at noon and will include crafttime, a pizza lunch with Santa, a hayride, and a train ride.Show times will be at 3:30 and 6pm. On Saturday, Nov. 26, there will only be lunch and a 6pmPolar Express Experience. Refreshments will also include hot chocolate and cookies.
Model Railroad Days on Nov. 5-6 will feature various gauges of model railroads includingNorfolk Southern’s upgraded exhibit car and the Vines Garden Railway “G” scale exhibit. Therewill also be hands-on activities, a craft table, and refreshments.

Garden and Nature EventsFestival of Camellias at Massee Lane in Fort ValleyCamellias, the roses of winter, bloom throughout the coolest months during Camellia Days
from November until March or April at Massee Lane Gardens, located 5.5 miles south of FortValley on GA 49.
Easy walking tours wind through ten acres of formalcamellia gardens with camellia trees flowering alongsidethe brick walks. A landscaped greenhouse with camelliasand azaleas assures blooms even during the coolestweather. Two galleries showcase exquisite displays ofporcelain art.
The Festival of Camellias runs every day in Februarywhen camellia blooms are at their peak. The first Saturdayof February offers free admission. Other events throughout
the month will include a Camellia workshop, Camellia culture demonstrations, and entertain-ment. Camellias and Sasanquas will be for sale.

McCaysville offers spectacular views of scenic valleys, forests, rolling hills, and the beautifulToccoa River. The train, which travels over recently upgraded tracks built more than 100years ago, is diesel-powered and includes climate- controlled vintage coach cars, an open-air car, and a concession car with snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. The ticket office is in the 100year old depot in Blue Ridge, only 95 miles north of Atlanta.
The Railway will celebrate the holidays from Nov. 25-Dec. 24 on the one-hour Santa Expresswith daytime, fun-filled train rides. Hear a Christmas story, sing Christmas carols, and visit withSanta as he walks through each train car visiting and poses with the kids for photos. Each passenger will receive the traditional Blue Ridge Scenic Railway Christmas Memento.

Annual Festival of Lights Parade in DouglasThe Annual Festival of Lights Parade will be held in Douglas on Saturday, December 3, at
6:30pm. The theme for this year’s parade will be “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” One of thelargest night-time parades in South Georgia, this event willfeature over 100 entries watched by over 25,000 specta-tors. National Civil War Naval Mustum at Port ColumbusA Victorian Christmas will be held two weekends this year at the Port Columbus Civil War
Naval Museum which will be decorated in traditional Victorian holiday style with circa 1863 decorations and trees. The first week-end, Nov. 26-27, will feature a museum theatre program telling thestories of sailors during the holidays, period music, and snacksprovided by Fountain City Coffee. Regular admission will apply.
The second weekend, Dec. 3-4, will be the traditional openhouse. A Civil War Era Santa will listen to children’s want lists.Photos with Santa will be available. There will also be Victorian-era entertainment and music as well as snacks provided byTwelfth Street Deli. At the conclusion of the day, Santa will fire theoriginal Civil War cannon from the CSS Jackson. This event willbe free to the public.
