All challenges provided the reports and their updated versionD*.3.5 in June 2016. The reportswent through first an internal revision (Sept-Dec 2016) and then an English revision (Jan-Mar2017) process before their publication online. The coordinator managed all the reviewing andpublication process (collection of metadata information for getting the DOI from challengeleaders), while Ifremer managed the DOI assignment to the reports and CLU managed thepublicationonthewebportal.TheTPsarevisible fromthewebportal, fromthechallengeswebpages that include:objective,methodology,datasources,theTPlist,thelinktotheTP(files)ortootherGISvisualization,thelinktothemetadatainformationforeachTP(DPS,TDP,UDandD*.3.5report)

11.WP11:DataAdequacyReports(INGV) The2ndMediterraneanDataAdequacyReport(DAR)completedthedevelopmentofconceptsandmethodologiesinitiatedintheLiteratureReviewandinthefirstDataAdequacyReport.TheaimofthesecondDARwastodocumentthereliabilityandutilityoftheexistingmonitoringsystemattheseabasinlevelandtoidentifythemaingaps,prioritizingthem.The 2nd DAR is available at http://www.emodnet-mediterranean.eu/reports_news/ and athttp://www.emodnet.eu/checkpoints/reports.TheDARdocumentedthefinalmethodologyusedintheMedSeaCheckpointprojectbaseduponISO and INSPIRE principles for the development of indicators. The indicators are constructeddirectlyon theCheckpointmetadatabase, containing informationon theanalyseddatasetsandrelative data providers. Two fundamental phases of the assessment were the collection ofinformation on potential input datasets to be used for the products and the realization of theTargeted Products requested by the tender (see Figure 1). For each Challenge, CheckpointInformationonWhat,Why,Where,WhenandHowdatahavebeenusedtodeveloptheproductsisgivenandstatisticallyanalysed.

Figure2TheMedSeaCheckpointprocedureadoptedbythe7ChallengesforthecreationoftheTargetedProducts.

Theassessmentmethodologyisproviding:• AvailabilityIndicators:quantitativeandqualitativeinformationonHowtheinputdatasets

aremadeavailabletothe7Challenges;• Appropriateness Indicators: What is the quality of the upstream datasets used for the

ChallengeTargetedProducts.•

Additionally, theDARcontainstheexperts’ judgmentonTargetedProductsqualityandusabilityaccording to the identified gaps in the upstream datasets. This represented an importantverification of the implemented methodology and a unique critical approach to productsevaluation.Gapsofthemonitoringsystematthebasinscalesinviewofthe7prescribedChallengesemergedfrom the combined analysis of availability and appropriateness indicators and somerecommendationshavebeenproposedtofillthesegaps. An important activity was the preparation of the Final Summary of Efforts Report (D11.5) todocumenttherealeffortspentperpartneraccordingtoalltheactivitiesconducted.
