The PENTXM2 is a 6U VME SBC whichfeatures a 1.67 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeonprocessor (Codenamed Sossaman) com-bined with the Intel E7520 server classMemory Controller Hub (MCH). It handlesserver-like data throughput and providesnext generation PCI-Express I/O band-width capabilities.

The Thales PENTXM2 family ofsingle-board computers (SBCs)uses the latest Low Power Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor andE7520 chipset and offers highspeed, server-class performancefor advanced embedded applica-tions. The single slot PENTXM2SBC is ideal for thermally constrai-ned environments and includes allthe up to date I/O standard inter-faces required in a server blade PC.Furthermore, the PENTXM2 pro-duct supports the IntelligentPlatform Management Interface(IPMI) specification for easy integra-tion in complex systems.The Thales PENTXM2 is thereforeideal for bandwidth intensive appli-cations both in a standalone or in acomplex cluster configuration.

System ManagementThe PENTXM2 is the first VME Bladecomputer which features a baseboardManagement Controller (BMC) as out-lined in the VITA 38/PICMG 2.9 recom-mendation. The enabling or disabling ofthe BMC is an hardware build option. TheBMC, which draws less than a Watt,complies with the Intelligent PlatformManagement Interface (IPMI) rev. 1.5.This allows to control the PENTXM2 whilethe main processor is off-line.

EFI BIOS/FirmwareThe PENTXM2 supports a BIOS/Firmware which complies with ExtensibleFirmware Interface (EFI) specification.The EFI specification defines a new modelfor the interface between operating sys-tems and platform firmware. The inter-face consists of data tables that containplatform-related information, plus bootand runtime service calls that are avail-able to the operating system and itsloader. Together, these provide a stan-dard environment for booting an operat-ing system and running pre-boot applica-tions.Written in C, the EFI firmware can easilybe tailored to fit customers’ application.Please, contact Thales.

Built in Test OptionThales diagnostics tools for Intel-basedSBCs provide a comprehensive set ofBuilt-In Test (BIT) routines to verify theintegrity of the underlying hardware.Designed for use with mission-criticalsoftware with hard real-time constraints,they simplify integration with applicationsrunning COTS software. Three test setdefinitions are available in Flash: coldstart, warm start, and forced start.These definitions can be tailored toachieve the appropriate test cover-age/starting run time ratio. The ThalesPower-on BIT (PBIT) routines run auto-matically at power-on, and the testresults are stored in onboard Flash mem-ory for later use by the operating systemor application.

Board Support PackagesBSPs are available for Linux 2.6,VxWorks, LynxOS, Windows and QNXNeutrino.
