This is the official estimated budget for this study abroad program. It serves as an estimated cost of attendance for
your study abroad program. Students often pay for study abroad through a combination of financial aid, personal
funds, scholarships, grants, and alternative loans. The total amount listed as the Total Program Cost is the maximum
amount of aid you can receive from GVSU. This estimated cost of attendance does not reflect the amount of aid you
will qualify for, simply the cap on how much could be awarded to you.
Costs Billed by GVSU*
IS 380 Course Fee $180 Paid to GVSU. The IS 380 course fee is
$15 per credit hour. Participants of
this program will register for 12
credits of IS 380.
Paid to Grand Valley State University
Student Accounts by the regular tuition
payment deadline. Graduate student's
will pay the graduate tuition rates. The
total amount will depend on the number
of courses completed abroad.
Flight & train $1,500
Paid to Airline Provider and train/bus
service.
Health insurance is required by GEM.
Students will pay French Social Security
of approx. 211 euro ($280 USD);
repatriation insurance 75 euro ($100
USD); and Mutuelle 60 euro ($80 USD).
The Basic ISIC card is $28 and will meet
the PIC health insurance requirement.

GVSU Tuition:
• 12-15 credits (Undergraduate)$5,489*Tuition based on 2013-2014 upper-level in-
state tuition rates (12-15 credits).
Out-of-state students will pay the out-of-state
tuition rate.
Passport/Visa/ISIC $331
Passport fee: $165. Campus France fee:
$100. Visa fee is currently $66.
Semester
Out-of-state students who receive a GVSU tuition differential scholarship will be able to use that scholarship
towards the cost of this program. Exception: international students will not have access to the tuition
differential scholarship for use towards the cost of study abroad, however, they may still be eligible for the
Study Abroad Grant.
*Based on 2013-2014 in-state, upper-division tuition rate for 12-15 credits. If you complete more than 15 GVSU
credits during your semester abroad, tuition charges for the additional credits above 15 will be billed to your
GVSU student account after you return from your semester abroad and PIC completes your transfer of credit.
** The housing costs are based on 500-1200 Euro per month which includes estimates for utilities and housing
insurance, deposits, taxes and internet. Housing costs will vary based on location and amenities students prefer.
The length of your stay will also impact the total cost.
Students who access CROUS accommodations will see costs at the lower end of the range.
The Padnos International Center will be providing (4) $1000 Partnership Grants for the 2014-2015 academic year. If more
than four students apply for this program, decisions on awards will be made based on the strength of a student's study abroad
application and financial need. Students may be eligible for more than $1000, but four applicants will receive a minimum of
$1000 in grant support. Additional information is available on the PIC website under "Financial Planning."

Paid to landlord/apartment
complex/service provider. Students must
purchase insurance, pay housing tax, pay
a deposit and pay for all utilities. This
estimate includes the estimated fees for
all of these expenses. Students can apply
for Crous upon arrival which can
significantly reduce the cost for housing.
Crous housing is not guaranteed.
Personal Expenses
On-site personal expenses associated
with local transportation, laundry, cell
phone purhcase, and basic necessities.
Based on $400 per month for 4 months.
Students must apply for CROUS in order to receive housing benefits. The application instructions
are listed in the GEM International Student Guide.
***The cost of any study abroad program depends to a large extent on the participant’s personal spending habits
and lifestyle. Personal travel, entertainment, gifts, souvenirs, and other types of personal spending are costs
not reflected in the above estimates.
