Bejoy Narayan Mahavidyalaya, a Government-Sponsored and UGC recognized institution is specifically devoted to the enlightenment and empowerment of rural boys and girls in an agriculture-based rural area in the district of Hooghly. It has already been assessed by the NAAC peer team during twice. The vision of the Mahavidyalaya is to become one of the best educational institutions in the State catering to the

rural people’s need of higher education, and run along the ideals of man-making education propounded by Swami Vivekananada. The mission of the college is 'Tanme manah Siva samkalpamastu' . Hope your children will be able to make the best use of the facilities and resources available to carve out a successful and bright career.

The College follows a proper curriculum planning and implementation strategy. The practices such as preparing and maintaining teaching plan, teacher’s course file, academic diary, assignments, test papers, seminars, curriculum feedback etc. help imparting of knowledge and effective transaction of the curriculum. The college is offering 13 under graduate programmes with 13departments. The college is running under shift system. About 2000 students are studying in morning section. Day section runs between 10 a.m. to 4.45 p.m. and morning section 7 a.m. - 12 noon. An efficient tutorial system is functioning in the College. The Institution is completely computerized in academic and administrative level. Free internet facility (100mbps) is available in computer labs and teaching departments.

The College encourages the students to take part in extra-curricular activities to entertain and inculcate social awareness. A well-structured feedback mechanism on curriculum is in operation in the College. The institutional goals and objectives are attained through curricula, range of subjects offered and extra- curricular activities. These processes help the students to inculcate traditional values and understand the culture as well as contemporary problems and concerns. Finally, it is important to note that, several renovation works, purchases (books & equipments) and construction works are done with the financial assistance from RUSA.

a. The college authority may expel a student for violating college rule. b. For entry into the college premises every student will have to produce his/her identity card at the gate of the college. c. In case of the loss of identity card, a duplicate one will be issued once only against the General Diary at the local Police Station under permission of the Principal. d. Instruction of students into the restricted areas of the office and administrative block is culpable offence. e. Making the class room walls and urinals dirty with graffiti, posters etc. is a punishable offence.

f. Students will be expelled from the college for destroying/attempting to destroy college property. g. No outsider is allowed to enter the college premises without necessary purpose, and a regular student found in association with such outsiders is liable to be punished. h. It is mandatory for the students to appear at all the class tests and annual examinations in the college. i. It is mandatory for the students to pay their fees in due time through SBI collect.

Fee for Hostel Admission Fee : Rs.200/- (Rupees two hudred only),Caution Fee : Rs. 700/- (Rupees Seven hundred only) Seat Rent and Electricity Charges: Rs. 400/-(Rupees four hundred only) per month. At the time of admission into a hostel a student has to pay seat rent for 12 (twelve) months at a time in advance. The rules set for boarders are to be strictly observed.

GGGG .... Rules regarding Class Attendance:

i. As per rules of the University of Burdwan, the students attending at least 75% of the total number of classes held, will only be considered collegiate. ii. The students attending below 60% (sixty percent) of the total number of classes actually held, will be treated as ‘non-collegiate’. iii. The students (excepting SC/ST/OBC categories) who desire to apply for free/half free studentship, must have at least 75% (seventy five percent) attendance in their classes. The student should produce an income certificate of his/her guardian or family from appropriate authority.

JJJJ .... Campus Facilities and Students support

The college has a campus of 11.84 acres divided into three adjacent campuses. The main campus of college (4.19 acres) houses the academic as well as the administrative buildings, the second campus includes three Boys' Hostels (2.47 acres), whereas the third campus consists of a play ground (5.18 acres). Though our College does not have adequate infrastructure, we are able to support its curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular requirements. The college has 27 class rooms, 21 laboratories, well-equipped office rooms and Principal's office, staff room, NCC and NSS offices, Common Rooms for boys and girls, Students Union's Office, Guest Room, Meeting Room and a big Library. The Womens’ Hostel is situated at the main campus. The second campus accommodates two Boys' Hostels with thirty rooms having a capacity of sixty students each and a big hall for community activities. The third campus which is about 300 meters away from the main campus encloses a play ground with the facilities for football, hockey, volley-ball, kabaddi, basket ball badminton and cricket. In addition the college has facilities for indoor games such as caroms, chess etc. (a) Students’ hostels The college has three hostels for boys with a provision for 140 seats. Besides, a Women Hostel inside the college premises. At the time of admission into a hostel a student has to pay seat rent for twelve (12) months at a time in advance. The rules set for boarders are to be strictly observed. (b) Library The college has a rich Central Library (for two shifts) with around fifty thousand books. Students can borrow these books and at the same time use the reading room for study during the college hours. Apart from the Central Library there are departmental libraries operated by the teachers of the respective departments. There is also a book bank in the Central Library and a Circulating Library run by the Alumni Association for catering to the need of the students.


(c) Science and Computer Laboratory The college offers well equipped laboratories to the students of all the Science Departments including a computer laboratory for Mathematics and two new Laboratories has been set up for the Physics & Nutrition department from the session 2013-14. (d) Unitized Syllabus Students of both Honours and General courses are provided with unitized syllabi at the commencement of every academic session with the object of apprising them of the definite portions to be covered within a given period by the respective teachers of various departments. (e) Continuous Evaluation of the teaching-learning process will be follow by the Departments on regular basis. (f) Teacher- Guardian meet Departmental Parents-Teacher meets are arranged every year in order to ensure better performance by the students. (g) Canteen and Common Room There is a specious canteen within the premises of the Institution offering lunch, tiffin and snacks. There are two Common Rooms in the college for the boys and the girls respectively with a number of indoor game facilities. (h)Games and Sports The college provides facilities for both the indoor and outdoor games like football, volleyball and cricket. The interested students participate in inter-college competitions held at the district, state and national level. (i) Cultural Programmes Cultural events are organized in the college throughout the year. Apart from the Annual Social Function and Freshers ‘Welcome Programme, organized by the Students’ Union, cultural meets are held on the occasion of ‘Antorjatik Matri Bhasa Dibas’, ‘Nabi Dibas’ , and ‘Rabindra Jayanti’. ‘Saraswata’, the annual cultural festival of the college is celebrated before the Puja Vacation. The cultural magazine of the college is published each year with contributions from students, teachers and the non-teaching staff members of the college. The college also organizes seminars, symposiums, debate, quiz and exhibitions on occasions like National Science Day, World Environment Day, and World Literacy Day. (j) National Service Scheme (NSS) The college has three NSS units which function under the supervision of three Programme Officers, Dr. Vinay Kumar Mishra, Prof. Prithwis Biswas , and Prof. Sanchali Banerjee. Interested students can enroll themselves in NSS and participate in various welfare programmes like Literacy Campaign, Blood Donation, Health Awareness, and Plantation as carried out by the NSS both inside the college campus and in the adopted villages. (k) National Cadet Crops(NCC) The college has its N.C.C. wing with 160 NCC cadets under the NCC officer Prof. Anjan Das. The NCC unit of the college has acquired a leading position in the District Battalion, and


the cadets participate in different training camps on regular basis. Only the all along regular students are entitled to join the N.C.C. unit of the college. (l) Students’ Redressal Cell This Cell acts with an objective of redressing all sorts of the grievances of the students relating to activities inside the college campus under the supervision of (m) Women Harassment Redressal Cell This Cell attends to the complaints, if any, of the girl students, and takes measures towards mitigating them. All sorts of ill treatment and misbehavior towards girl students come under the purview of this Cell under the supervision of (n) Career Counselling and Placement Cell The Cell arranges students counseling, seminars, workshops and discussions by eminent persons and professional bodies for providing necessary information and guidance to the students regarding their future course of study and employment prospect under the supervision of (o) Students’ Aid and Stipends Apart from offering the Government sponsored stipend to the SC/ST/OBC students on the basis of the merit of their claims, the institution itself arranges for the half-free, and full-free studentship, and grant from the Poor Aid fund for the financially handicapped students on the basis of maintaining 75% attendance in their classes. (p) Health Service Facility The students of the college can avail of the Students Health Home facility under the mediation of Prof. Samik Dasgupta. The students are offered medical treatment by eminent and specialist practitioners, and are provided with the opportunity of availing different medical investigations at a highly subsidized rate from the Home’s clinic at Hooghly (q) Computerized administration system including teaching : The college has introduced a centralized computer-operated administrative system of management for effective functioning of the college administration. All the faculty members are equipped with LAPTOPs for academic purpose (using RUSA fund). (r) Dynamic Website The college has set up an updated dynamic website which offers all the information about the college at fingertips. (s) Mock Parliament :- The college organizes Mock-parliament programme with the active participation of the students of the college. This year in December, 2016our students joined at the District Level Youth parliament & Quize contest competition organized by parliamentary – Affairs department, Govt. of W.B. We are very proud to announce that our students of Department of Political Science stood first at the Hooghly District College Level competition and two students of English Department also stood first at the quize contest among all other participant colleges of Hooghly District. At the Burdwan Division – level contest 2017 student from the Political Science Department of the college bagged the Best lady parliamentarian Award.


(t) Cycle-cum car shed A capacious cycle shed near the main entrance of the college allows the students and employees to park their vehicles. (u) Gardens, Ponds &Play Ground There are three pleasant gardens located within the college campus. One of these is a flower garden, while the other two are meant for growing Medicinal Plants, used by the Department of Botany. (v) Meditation room: We have one room for meditation, renovation is made from the donation received from Prof. G.C.Bhar, an alumnus. (w) ICT has already been adopted for all departments. The Association mobilizes financial assistance for the development of the college infrastructure. Dr. Mohanlal Ghosh, an alumnus and Ex-Assot. Prof. of the Dept. of Botany donated more than Rs. Ten Lakh for development of the college. The Association is running the Gopal Majumdar Circulating Library for lending text books to the meritorious and needy students since 2007.
