Greenfield Community School & Technology
GCS Collaboration Room
Technology at Greenfield Community School
As a 21st
Century Educational Institution GCS has full school Wi-Fi connectivity. We acknowledge that
smartphones, iPads, Tablets and laptops are a factual component in the lives of our students and we
embrace openly and actively the exploratory use of these tools for education.
At GCS we promote students to bring their own devices and have expanded the curriculum to include
BYOD driven topics. We impose a strict BYOD Acceptable Use Policy to protect the school and most
importantly our students.
We want students to be able to use engaging technologies in a collaborative, inquiry based format
through a personalised learning environment where teachers are willing and able to use technology to
facilitate and assist learners in transforming knowledge and skills into real life products, scenarios and
solutions. By doing so, we equip students from a wide range of nationalities, cultures and religions for
the demands and opportunities of a global twenty-first century society by offering a relevant,
differentiated and rigorous curriculum in a stimulating and dynamic learning environment.
Innovative teaching and Learning Practices that take place in the school
ALL PYP teachers in ALL subjects as well as SEN and EAL use iPads as a teaching and learning tool, this
facilitates a technology rich learning environment that has led to better communication, makes
instruction more efficient and effective, enhances thinking and learning skills and develops 21st
century
skills to life in a global society.
iPads have truly transformed the way we teach and learn at GCS. Due to the introduction of mobile
devices we found that traditional classroom settings restricted student creativity and their ability to
collaborate effectively. We have therefore remodelled of one of the Computer Labs and named it the
Collaboratio Roo , where students are able to mirror their iPads using Wi-Fi and Apple TV. The room
allows students to work collaboratively on projects using productivity apps such as iMovie’s,iBook
Author and more. The room is multifunctional and is used to facilitate and used for all subjects where
the possibility of IT is present, for instance we conduct Skype lessons, deliver Presentations, iPad
lessons, Newsroom and more.
Students are engaged more than ever and are creating, communicating, reflecting, developing the ability
for in depth analysis, synthesis and validating.
