DESCRIPTIONPresentation of a software application currently under development that will allow engineers to quickly compare and evaluate pavement design and rehabilitation alternatives in terms of sustainability.

2. WHAT IS GREEN UP? A software application that will produce a color-coded graphic to illustrate the sustainable and non-sustainable aspects of pavement rehabilitation strategies. An educational tool that will help users learn more about sustainable pavement materials and practices. By design, Green Up was meant to be quick, simple and effective. The target audience includes primarily those in charge of making or approving pavement rehabilitation recommendations. 3. WHY COLORS? Pavement materials and practices involve a mix of sustainable and non- sustainable aspects. Colors are an easy way to convey a wealth of information relatively fast better than a numerical index. Red = Least Sustainable Green = Most Sustainable 4. STATUS AND PLANS Greenup 1.0 for Windows available for evaluation purposes only at PRRCenter.org/Greenup More research needed to set the carbon footprint thresholds. Add user costs to Life/Cycle input screen. Address any bugs and add better reporting capability. In the near future, make Greenup available as a web app/mobile app. Contractors could use it in the bidding process. Consultants could use it to include sustainability considerations in their design/rehabilitation recommendations. Public agencies could require its use to ensure that consultants considered several design alternatives and that sustainability is included. As materials and technologies green up, the application should be periodically update to reflect significant improvements. 19. ULTIMATE GOAL Provide practitioners with simple, convenient tool to evaluate sustainability aspects of pavement design/rehabilitation strategies. Green Up does not replace sustainability rating systems such as LEED for Neighborhoods, Greenroads, LEED, Invest. Educate users about sustainable pavement materials and practices by providing links to web sites with pertinent information. Promote sustainable pavement materials and practices. 20.
