Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce The Link July 2012 With the warm/hot weather this year, we are hopeful to have some great tasting local corn for our corn roast at the Racine County Fair. We will also be selling fruit cups, hot dogs, brats and beverages. If you have not worked the Chamber Corn Roast before, maybe you would like to volunteer for a shift this year. It is a fun way to get to know fellow chamber members. Many of our volunteers come back year after year because they enjoy it so much. If you would like to help, contact Terri Gray at 262-878-4606 or email [email protected]. Shifts run Wednesday through Friday at either 10:30 am - 4:30 pm OR 4:30 - 10:30 pm. The following shifts are full: Thursday AM, Friday AM, Saturday PM. Shepherds College recently celebratedtheir second annual commencement.Seven graduates received their certificateof completion during the ceremony onJune 9.

Over 150 people attended thecommencement. Special guests includedWisconsin State Representative Robin Vosand three alumni from ShepherdsCollege’s first graduating class.

The ceremony began at 1:00 pm with aflag processional that included a flagfrom each graduate’s home state orcountry. The audience then stood as theywatched the Class of 2012 walk to thefront of the auditorium in their silver capsand gowns.

Melissa Holm of Union Grove,a student with Down syndrome,was chosen to represent thegraduating class as the student

speaker. She thanked her teachers,family, friends, and internship supervisor.She also shared what she had learned atShepherds College and how she hadchanged during her three years atShepherds.

“During my time at Shepherds College, Ilearned how to control my emotions,”Holm said. She concluded her speechwith a challenge to her classmates. “Iencourage you to remember that God isalways with you,” Holm said. “Keepfollowing God’s plan for your life, evenwhen it seems difficult.”

As Angela Houk, Dean of ShepherdsCollege, read the students’ names, thegraduates stepped up to the platform toreceive their certificates of completionfrom Executive Director of ShepherdsCollege Tracy Terrill and Dr. WilliamAmstutz, president of ShepherdsMinistries.

The Shepherds College Class of 2012then turned to face the audience. Thesmiles on their faces revealed how thestudents felt about their accomplishments.Together, they turned their tassels, andseven new graduates joined theShepherds College alumni.

Leadership Union Grove is now enrolling students forthe 2012 – 2013 class. Classes are held on the secondWednesday of every month from October to May. For an application form go towww.uniongrovechamber.org. Students are sponsoredby their employers or by a service group such as theLions Club of Union Grove or the Kiwanis who providescholarships.

If thoseoptions are not available, a student can pay their owntuition. Every student’s employer must approve thestudent’s absence from work one day a month.

To Register for the Children's Parade call Talmer Bank & Trust at 262-878-0951. On the day of theparade, parents can park in the Talmer Bank and Trust back parking lot or on the street in back of the bank. The Children’s Paradewill assemble at 8:45 am at the entrance to Main by the drive thru and go to Village Square Park, ahead of the main parade. Smallchildren must be accompanied by an adult.
