    Enos Barton and Elisha Gray originally ounded theircompany, Gray & Barton, in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1869. In1872, Gray & Barton changed its name to Western Electric

    and eventually became the worlds leading manuacturero telephones. During the 1890s, to supplement itsmanuacturing operations, Western Electric developeda second business the wholesale distribution o othercompanies products. This second business becameGraybar, named ater its coounders, in 1925.

    In 1929, Graybar employees made history when theypurchased their company rom Western Electric or

    $9 million. Just nine months ater this momentouspurchase, the stock market crashed and Graybar and its

    employee shareholders aced the most dicult businessenvironment in American history.

    Yet Graybar survived that period and developed a culturethat continues to drive the companys success today. Thatculture is based on our core values:Integrity, EmployeeOwnership, Long-Term View and Customer Focus.
