Some we start our- selves, some are passed down from our older generations, and that's what makes them tradition. So, we all have certain things we do for Christmas, for example. My wife has made her version of fruit cake every year since we've been married, so now it's a tradition. We have certain traditions for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. We have a holiday coming up that carries the tradition of giving candy and flowers. 4th of July we put flags out, Easter we hide eggs. To bring in the New Year we must have Black-eyed peas and cabbage. Schools, universities, fraternal organizations have tradi- tions. We practice them, and we pass them on. So, all of that leads me to this; Brothers I attended a K of C mid-year conference in January and got to watch the new Initiation ceremony on a video. This is one of the changes we have heard about and you can see it at https://videos.kofc.org/exemplification. I started thinking about tradition and I come to this; It would seem the Knights are giving up a lot of traditions. The ceremony has been streamlined to the point that now all the tradition is gone. There are no robes, no bones no mystery, none of that anymore. The ceremony has three speakers, they get about 10 minutes each to talk, candidates get a rosary, 30 minutes and done! I believe this has been done because candidates just don't have time for three separate ceremo- nies so they get one quick one and it's done but these guys are missing so much of the mystique and traditions that were a big part of the ceremonies from the past. But I guess this is progress, Personally, I kinda like traditions. Fraternally, Roland Jones GK Congratulations to Council 2045! FEBRUARY ASSEMBLY NEWS

February 2020 is the Month of the Passion of our Lord! The Passion of Christ, from the Latin patior meaning "suffer," refers to those sufferings our Lord endured for our redemption from the agony in the garden until His death on Calvary. In an age where the "risen" Jesus appears on the cross and "suffering" and "sacrifice" have be-come unpopular terms, we must not lose sight of the reality of the passion. After the Last Supper, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane at the Mount of Olives. Our Lord prayed, "Father, if it is your will, take this cup from me; yet not my will but yours be done" (Lk 22:42). Jesus knew the sacrifice He faced. He prayed so intensely that "his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground" (Lk 22:44). I pray that we all look to our father in heaven for strength to endure our own daily personal struggles! I found the following prayer that I hope touches all of you as it did me.

A Prayer For a Family:

O dear Jesus, I humbly implore You to grant Your special graces to our family. May our home be the shrine of peace, purity, love, labor and faith. I beg You, dear Jesus, to protect and bless all of us, absent and present, living and dead. O Mary, loving Mother of Jesus, and our Mother, pray to Jesus for our family, for all the families of the world, to guard the cradle of the newborn, the schools of the young and their vocations. Blessed Saint Joseph, holy guardian of Jesus and Mary, assist us by your prayers in all the necessities of life. Ask of Jesus that special grace which He granted to you, to watch over our home at the pillow of the sick and the dy-ing, so that with Mary and with you, heaven may find our family unbroken in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Amen.

That commitment is an essential core value of the Knights of Columbus, and our core values permeate all levels of our organization. We pledge to serve our brother Knights, and their families, according to our Golden Rule: “In all my professional relationships, I pledge myself to the following rule of conduct: I shall, in light of all conditions surrounding those I serve, render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to myself.” Let’s talk soon to discuss how our products can bring that peace of mind to you and your family. Pope Francis: Keep a Bible close to

you for daily inspiration Vatican City, Jan 26, 2020 / 04:30 am (CNA).- Pope Francis preached Sunday about the life-changing power of God’s word in Scripture,

encouraging everyone to keep a Bible close for daily inspiration. “Let us make room in our lives for the word of God. Each day, let us read a verse or two of the Bible. Let us begin with the Gospel: let us keep it open on our table, carry it in our pocket, read it on our cell phones, and allow it to inspire us daily,” Pope Francis said in his homily Jan. 26. “The Lord gives you his word, so that you can receive it like a love letter he has written to you, to help you realize that he is at your side. His word consoles and encourages us. At the same time it challenges us, frees us from the bondage of our selfishness and summons us to conversion. Because his word has the power to change our lives and to lead us out of darkness into the light,” the pope said.
