Grade 1 Classes

One of the best things about grade

1 is learning to read and having stories

read to us.

Page 3: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

Our teachers told us that some children don’t have the

opportunity to read because they don’t have a chance to

attend school or because they have no books.

Page 4: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

We’ve been learning that as ethical contributors to a global society it is our responsibility to

help others.

Page 5: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

We learned about 2 people trying to spread the joy of reading to children living in poor countries around

the world.

We were inspired to take action and decided to

organize a gift jar sale in support of Bonnie’s Big Idea and Room to Read.

Page 7: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

We created a Power Point presentation to

teach the RVIS school community about

Room to Read and Bonnie’s Big Idea. We

asked for their help.

Page 8: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

We reflected on what it would be like not to have books to read. Then we

wrote class poems about a world without

books.

Page 9: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

We looked for recipes and collected money

for supplies.

Page 10: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

Ms. Kelly ordered a copy of Zak the Yak to be shared

with each class before the sale.

Page 11: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

We used the common room for an afternoon of gift jar production.

A big thanks to our

volunteers!

Page 12: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

We prepared for the sale.

We made posters.

We set up the presentation

room.

We collected plastic bags.

We made sure we

had change.

Page 13: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

Finally, the BIG day arrived!

We sold over 50 copies of Zak the Yak!

By the end of the day we had sold every

single jar!

Page 14: Grade 1 Service Project: A Reflection

We had a bit of help from our pre-k friends too!

Pre-k donated just over 23 BD, that’s a lot at only 100 fils per glass of

“lemoneuss”!

Mr. Des helped us make our donation to Bonnie’s Big Idea

and Room to Read.
